Another public hearing set on Q.V. septic tanks

Those following the California Regional Water Quality Control Board’s progress in furthering a ban on septic tanks in Quail Valley will want to mark their calendars for Monday, August 14. That’s the date of the next public hearing on the matter.
Failing septic tanks in the adjacent community were a major factor in the contamination of Canyon Lake waters during the rainy season of 2004-2005, and steps are being taken to prohibit the use of septic systems and replace the deteriorating tanks with sewers.
The pubic hearing will be held in Canyon Lake Middle School’s multi-purpose room at 6 p.m. However, the Water Quality Control Board is requesting all written comments by July 31. These comments must be submitted by regular mail or e-mail – and even those who want to speak during the oral comment portion of the upcoming meeting are required to summarize their comments in writing.
Send comments to Stephen D. Mayville, Section Chief, Water Board, 3737 Main St., Suite 500, Riverside, CA 92501-3348 or e-mail him at smayville@waterboards.ca.gov.
Copies of previously submitted documents, such as the environmental checklist, staff report, the tentative resolution for septic tank prohibition and responses to earlier questions are available at the Canyon Lake Library as well as at City Hall.
