In Memoriam: Robert E. Meeks

     Robert E. “Bobby” Meeks died August 8, at the age of 85. Born in St. Louis, Missouri on July 17, 1921, Mr. Meeks served in the United States Navy from 1942 to 1945. Considered a pioneer in the high performance automotive industry, he worked with the Edelbrock Corporation for nearly 65 years living out every boy’s dream of living, breathing and racing high performance cars while working side-by-side with many of the greats.
     Mr. Meeks’ numerous accomplishments included perfecting the Ford Flathead and Chevy V-8 engines, as well as working with many of the legends of the sport, setting a number of land speed records at the Bonneville Salt Flats. He was well loved for his knowledge and never failed to help those who asked.
     He was preceded in death by his wife “Sis” and is survived by his son, Mike, one grandson and one great-grandson.
     Memorial services were held at the Canyon Lake County Club Monday, August 14. “God Speed, Dad.”
