Canyon Lake Little League opens 2008 season
The morning skies might have been foreboding and the air a bit chilly last Saturday, but it would have taken more than that to put a damper on opening day festivities for the Canyon Lake Little League’s 2008 season. According to board member Alex Cook, the morning started out busy, with 250 pancake breakfasts sold before the start of ceremonies, while TC Fugate, Creative Arts Pastor for the Canyon Lake Community Church Threshold service, performed for the crowd.

Movie Reviews by Reel People: 'Vantage Point'
Today, it seems almost everyone has a different point of view. As we learn from the litany of TV crime solvers, witnesses to any event can offer varying accounts of the facts, depending on perception and vantage point. In this rapidly paced international thriller, we witness an assassination attempt on our President from eight different perspectives.

Business Showcase: Alternative Wellness focuses on holistic health
Healthy eating and healthy living go hand in hand. With more Americans coming to realize just how their fast food culture has widened their hips and shrunk the capacity of their arteries, clogging them with cholesterol, a renewed focus on nutrition, exercise and natural remedies has developed, with many taking a closer look at the things they do to, and put into, their bodies.

School Daze: Stark budget facts related at town hall meeting
During a cold, rainy evening on February 20, close to 150 parents attended a budget presentation held at Canyon Lake Middle School. Like the weather, those at the meeting learned the state’s fiscal crisis was “very unpredictable,” according to District Superintendent Dr. Frank Passarella.

Teen Talk: Got something to say? Wear it on your sleeve
What’s in a name? That which we call a rose, by any other word would smell as sweet. And who would have thought that a name, on a T-shirt of all places, would be such a big deal on the slopes of Mammoth Mountain?

It's Miller Time: Forget the flu - worry about the decorating bug
It never ends! When I left this morning, my house was in its usually state of organized chaos. When I returned, the house looked like it had been robbed. My mom had been bitten by the decorating bug . . . again.

Letter: Need checks and balances
While I acknowledge past POA President Travis Montgomery’s views on my “State of Emergency” letter, perhaps he did not grasp the overall purpose, which was to generate ideas that would eventually lead to the betterment of the community.

Letter: Need straight talk
The Board has indicated the homeowner’s monthly assessment fee may be increased this spring. Many of us are still smarting about the last two increases put upon us. Since the main source of POA money comes from you and I, the homeowners, I’d like some “straight talk” from management.

Letter: Flood insurance woes
I have lived here for 23 years and am disabled. Ever since Katrina happened I have been charged $3,000 for flood insurance by my insurance company. This doesn’t seem right to me and I am wondering if other people are experiencing the same problem.
