7.8 earthquake to strike the community of Canyon Lake
If the above headline were true, it’s questionable whether The Friday Flyer or any local newspaper would be around to report it – at least right away. An earthquake that size (predicted to happen at any time) would be quite a disruptive hit to most businesses, not to mention ATM machines, gas stations, stores, roads and hospitals.
City Connection: Get involved in emergency planning
The emergency preparedness information provided here is found on Pages 56 to 58 of the Canyon Lake Directory. Also included there is a full-page sign with a green “OK” on one side and red “Help” on the other. In the event of a large-scale disaster such as an earthquake, this sign should be placed in a window that can be seen from the street.

Resident undergoes rare self-transplant surgery
Cancer patients want to receive hope from their doctors. The last thing they want to hear is, “There’s nothing more we can do,” which is what resident Jeff Fritch heard from his doctors at City of Hope hospital regarding his kidney cancer, before receiving renewed hope from kidney specialists at University of California Los Angeles (UCLA) Medical Center, where he underwent a rare self-transplant procedure.

Movie Reviews by Reel People: 'The Eye'
Beauty is in the eye of the beholder. Actually, that’s not necessarily so. When a blind woman receives a double corneal transplant, strange and demonic images begin to appear in her sights. She just can’t believe her eyes. Oh wait, technically they aren’t hers, but you know what we mean. “The Eye” is the best case yet against HMOs.
School Daze: The words we read are getting fewer and fewer
The latest news on Americans and reading is not getting better. Letter: Help for Mackenzie
Once again this community has taken our breath away. Our family was so overwhelmed with the wonderful support Mackenzie Monteleone received at the recent fundraiser held at and given by Cottonwood Canyon Elementary School.
Letter: Rules, rules, rules
I wrote a letter a couple of months ago about all the rules and more rules and then went to the meeting where the Vice-president of the POA openly stated that only some of those rules were enforced. He made a point of his truck not being legal in Canyon Lake, but because some of the rules were stupid, they were not enforced.
Letter: Cell phones fundraiser
On behalf of the Elsinore Middle School Library, we would like to thank the ladies at Pack, Wrap and Post and all those who donated old cell phones and empty ink cartridges. As of this date, we have collected $2,300. This fundraiser would not be possible without the generous donations from the community. We thank everyone for his or her support.
