A retraction concerning 'Citizen group invites residents to learn more about Goetz Hill project'
A front page article in the print-version of the May 30, 2008, issue of The Friday Flyer entitled “Citizen group invites residents to learn more about Goetz Hill project” contained inaccuracies, misconceptions and innuendo regarding Sky Blue Investment, Inc.’s intentions for future development there. (The web version of the article has been updated to include, among other things, Sky Blue's response.)
Citizen group invites residents to learn more about Goetz Hill project
A group calling itself Concerned Citizens of Canyon Lake, originally spearheaded by Mike Miller, has banded together to oppose what it alleges to be a proposal for a mining operation on Goetz Hill by Sky Blue Investments, Inc.
Heavy rains bring contamination warning
Though the Fiesta Day ski show went on as planned Saturday, all other Canyon Lakers were advised not to go into the water following last weeks heavy rains, with the City posting warning signs that the Lake was contaminated and closed to bodily contact in accordance with State of California Department of Health Services guidelines.

In a letter to the editor this week, Fiesta Day Parade Chairman Vonnie Kent lauds the many volunteers who assisted in putting on the largest annual event of the year for Canyon Lakers Fiesta Day.
Annual Fiesta Day fills Lodge, grounds
This years Fiesta Day had the best variety of vendors with everything from singing lessons, to fantastic artwork, to personalized stationery, according to Vonnie Kent of the Fiesta Day Committee, who says We also had the tastiest food booths ever.
City Connection: Two RRCR projects starting soon
Work is slated to start on a project to repair and repave the eastbound lanes of Railroad Canyon Rd. Earlier this year, the Canyon Lake City Council approved a contract to rehabilitate the eastbound stretches of the road. The planned improvements include grinding and overlay of the eastbound lanes to remove damaged areas.
City Connection: Illegal auto sales in Towne Center targeted by City
The Canyon Lake City Council will consider a new ordinance at the June 11 meeting to allow City code enforcement officers to cite vehicles left for sale in the Towne Center parking lot. The item was taken under consideration at the May meeting at the request of the Merchant Owners Association.
City Connection: Help Canyon Lake prepare for an emergency
How many people know Canyon Lake was included in an emergency alert a week ago for a tornado? It didnt touch down here, but what if it had? Its been a long time since a major earthquake has hit Southern California, yet warnings are all over the media. In fact, California is preparing for an exercise called Golden Guardian next November. Do Canyon Lakers take these warnings seriously?
City Connection: Drinking and driving in a golf cart can also lead to DUI
The Canyon Lake Police Department has a message it wants to get across to the community loud and clear: drinking and driving in golf carts is just as illegal as driving any other vehicle under the influence. And whats more, it can be even more dangerous.

Two trucks collided at the intersection of Canyon Lake Dr. South and Continental, tying up traffic for residents entering the community on Tuesday evening. The accident, which occurred at approximately 5:30 p.m., involved a Ford Ranger and Nissan Pathfinder.

The date of the June City Council meeting has been changed to Wednesday, June 11. The meeting will begin at 7 p.m. with the agenda posted the Friday prior to the meeting. Those unable to attend in person can watch the meeting on Time Warner local access Channel 29.
CLLL to host a community carnival tomorrow
Open to all residents, Canyon Lake Little League is holding its closing ceremonies tomorrow with a carnival that includes games, jumpers, water slide, jousting, dunk tank, speed pitch, bungee run, food vendors, rock wall and pro bike exhibition. The fun will take place from 10:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Gault Field.
Taco Tuesday is back!
Fun-loving residents will be pleased to learn Taco Tuesdays will begin June 3 with a regular menu of beef or chicken tacos, rice, beans and nachos, according to Food and Beverage Manager Loretta Dudziak. In addition, sno-cones will be available in the Pool View Room and coffee drinks will be in the Sunset Room.
Make plans to attend next Saturday's Art at the Lake
Local artists are preparing to showcase their work to the community at an evening event that will include a silent auction. The Canyon Lake Art Association will host Art at the Lake in the Holiday Bay Room at the Lodge on Saturday, June 7 from 5 to 9 p.m. Admission is free.
Dagues' '40 Ford coupe named 'Car of the Month'
Howard and John Dague have been property owners in Canyon Lake since April 1969 and residents since 1981, when they built their home here. Howard retired the following year. Needing something to fill his time to keep from going crazy, he decided to get back into his old hobby of working on cars, something hes been interested in since he was a kid.

Spotlight on Seniors: Teressa Martel
Teressa Martel, daughter of The Friday Flyer movie reviewers, Ron and Leigh Martel, graduated Magna Cum Laude from San Diego State University with a Bachelor of Science degree in Political Science. Teressa attended SDSU on a four year Provost Scholarship and was crowned Homecoming Queen earlier this year.
Looking Back: What happened in May of past years?
In May of 1973, Canyon Lake was approaching its fifth year of operation as a private, gated community. Ralph Brogdon was POA Board President, Bob Buus was acting administrator and George Becker was President of the Home Owners Club. The first Fiesta Day was held and featured a Miss Canyon Lake contest along with Mexican food, music, entertainment and game booths.

Teen Talk: High school not like the movies said it would be
Nineteen more days until summer vacation, 37 more days till my 17th birthday and about two months until I begin my final year of high school. I can remember back at Tuscany Hills Elementary School when I would walk the halls with my friends, holding school books in my arms and joking that we were high school girls and we did sophisticated things like wearing heels and actually talking to boys.

This new feature, Commuter Connection, is an opportunity for commuters to list their name and job destination in hopes of finding other Canyon Lake residents headed to the same destination. With rising gas prices, it makes sense to share the costs with one or two other people.
In Memoriam: Bonnie Ebersole
Longtime resident, La Vonne Bonnie Ebersole, 82, passed away on May 21 because of complications from chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD).
Letter: Heartfelt thanks
I find myself wanting to count blessings for everything and everyone in my life and for every morning when I open my eyes and see the beauty that surrounds me. It is truly amazing how ones whole life and priorities can change overnight when you realize how fragile life is and that every day is a gift.
Letter: Fiesta Day
Last week, as thunderous skies poured rain on our City and we saw stories of tornadoes and flash floods, the unexpected turn in the weather threatened our biggest event of the year Fiesta Day. We had been planning diligently for the last five months and, although a rainy day seemed imminent, we kept a positive attitude.

We are weekend residents of Canyon Lake since 1969 and now in our fourth house on Strawberry Ln. A few years ago the POA had a campaign of using pyrotechnics to scare off the large number of cormorants that use our Lake for nesting in the winter months and then they stopped because of resident complaints.

Whats up with the parade route change? Safety? The fire department is in the parade. We have another fire department now close to us that we didnt have before. Was someone interrupted for 60 minutes in their day and had to drive a different way out of Canyon Lake?
Letter: Uninvited guest
On May 10, at approximately 9:45 p.m., a gentleman came through the decal side of the Main Gate. He didnt show his I.D., a membership card or sport a Canyon Lake decal on his windshield. He showed up on my doorstep un-announced. What is that about?
Letter: Goetz Hill development
The Canyon Lake Condominium Association is strongly opposed to the proposed Goetz Hill development. We feel the project is very detrimental to Canyon Lake residents. Our opposition is based on the constant noise and dust factor for three to five years and probably longer.

TWG members work hard before summer break
The Tuesday Work Group is in the process of putting a new wall on the #2 tee box, according to TWG member Rolly Bitterman, who says the wall will match the existing one and will have two trees and a lot of flowers.
Get ready for summer with exercise classes
Exercise with Baby classes are held on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 8:30 to 9:30 a.m. and on Mondays and Wednesdays from 6 to 7 p.m. All classes are held at Holiday Harbor. Led by Canyon Lake resident Leslie Kahn, the classes are a 60-minue total body workout.
Learn to swim with 'Sponge Bob'
Oh, barnacles! Sign-ups are now underway for swimming classes at the Pool, and this years theme will be Sponge Bob Square Pants. The session times are June 16 to 20, June 23 to 27, July 7 to 11, July 14 to 18, July 21 to 25 and July 28 to August 1.
ACCording to the ACC: Improvements
Absolutely no construction can be commenced until an application and plans have been reviewed and stamped approved by the all-volunteer Architectural Control Committee in writing. This includes, but is not limited to, concrete, fences, block walls of any sort, patios and patio covers, lakeside improvements and all new home construction.
