Water world

What could be better than spending the 4th of July hanging out on the Lake with friends, soaking up the summer sun while awaiting the evening's light show? Well, how about hanging out in a pool over the Lake, soaking up the sun and watching the holiday plethora of boaters coming and going in the East Bay! This photo taken by Jon Wade brings new meaning to the phrase "best of both worlds" and captures just one of the many reasons Canyon Lakers like to call their community "a little bit of paradise." |

At its meeting July 16, the City Council unanimously agreed to contribute up to $2,500 on rate-reduction efforts, spearheaded by the 15 cities that make up the Western Riverside Council of Governments (WRCOG).
City Connection: What is the difference between the City and POA?

POA General Manager Clint Warrell and City of Canyon Lake Manager Lori Moss put together this brief list to demonstrate how the private corporation known as the Canyon Lake Property Owners Association is different from its public counterpart at the City of Canyon Lake.

Stop by Blue Bird Hall tomorrow to help bring life-saving wells to the people of Kenya
Clean drinking water is something many people take for granted; however, there are many people in Kenya who have to walk up to five miles to fetch water from polluted sources. Flip is no flop for Canyon Laker's national title
It wasn’t through trick-of-the-eye or sleight-of-hand that Canyon Lake’s resident “con artist” won the national championship in hydrofoiling last weekend. Known in the world of entertainment for his skills in classic cons, sleight-of-hand magic and pool, Anthony Riniti, better known as Chef Anton, competed in the national championships for hydrofoiling over the weekend of July 18,19 and 20 and came away the overall champion in his division of “Advanced Tech.”
Thrill, skill, speed drives local coach to success
When Robert “Rob” Chornomud started playing inline roller hockey at the age of 14, it’s most likely he wasn’t thinking 23 years into the future and the possibility of being a world championship coach. He also couldn’t have foreseen the recognition of being inducted into the USA Roller Sports Coaches Hall of Fame; the result of a string of roller hockey accomplishments for the Canyon Lake resident.
First time hosts reap rewards of having students
Stepping out and doing something for the very first time can have its rewards, as residents Joe and Vi Henderson have discovered. Prompted by an article they read in The Friday Flyer about international students “desperately needing host families,” Joe and Vi called EF Educational Homestay Progams (EFEHP), a non-profit organization, and volunteered to host two students.

Among the things they’ll remember is the day they met at First Baptist Church of Anaheim, during a Halloween youth party. Wanda was still a girl of 16 and Roger was serving in the U.S. Navy.
Bogus e-mail purportedly from UPS contains virus
Computer users receiving an e-mail that appears to come from United Parcel Service are warned to be cautious about opening attachments that contain a virus. The website snopes.com, which tracks virus and urban legends warns about an e-mail that many people have received this month. They call it the “UPS Delivery Failure virus.”
Looking Back: What happened in July of past years?
In July of 1973, Canyon Lake was five years old. W.A. Addington was president of the Property Owners Association and George Becker was president of the Home Owners Club. Bob Buus was still acting administrator, and Eugene N. Byrd was secretary and treasurer of the POA. Other members of the POA Board at that time were Gloria Becker, Vito Castellano, Jim Cross and Harry Woodward.
Movie Reviews by Reel People: 'The Dark Knight' and 'Mamma Mia'
The summer movie season is in full swing. “The Dark Knight” is technically brilliant and thrilling. “Mamma Mia!” is simply enjoyable for those who enjoy ’70s pop disco music.
Teen Talk: Where has the time gone?
It seems like it was only yesterday I joined in on all the kids’ activities Canyon Lake has to offer – things like the annual Jr. Golf Tournament and Little League. I see how all my younger neighbors are preparing for or just finishing up the activities this community has to offer and I can’t help but wonder where did the years go?

Some of the Sunday morning “Bandits” went on a golf outing to Trump National Golf Course in Rancho Palos Verdes on Saturday, July 19, and ended up playing behind “the Donald,” according to Canyon Lake golfer Bob Jacobson, a member of the 20 or so residents known as “Bandits,” who play together on a regular basis.

Letter: Six-foot setback
There were quite a few individuals who attended the Setback Committee meetings who were not selected to be officially on the committee. At the time it was announced there was going to be an official committee to work on the blight problem, I was the first one to turn in an application and I do own an RV.
Letter: Center will be beneficial
I wanted to comment on the open house held by the developers of Goat Hill. I thought it was a very professional presentation of their future upscale retail project. The scaled model of the proposed project was impressive. I was able, for the first time, to truly sense the vision of the developers regarding the finished project.
Letter: Devil is in the details
Disneyland comes to Canyon Lake. Yes, last Thursday the Sky Blue Investments team converted our City Multi-purpose Room into a real fantasyland. When you first walked into the room, you knew they were dreaming. Suspended from the ceiling were huge color photographs of storefronts.
Letter: Great addition to community
I went to the open house on July 17 and must say I walked in a skeptic and left with a better understanding of what was being proposed. I talked to one of the owners for some time and, not only did he answer my questions, he provided written documentation of the information.
Letter: Facts or scare tactics
Well, now we have heard from another leader of the Concerned Citizens (to save their views) of Canyon Lake, Mr. Petty. (See July 11 Letter to the Editor). Did you ever hear the saying, “If a tree falls in the forest and no one is around, does it make a sound?” Yes, it does. The simple reason someone did not hear it is because they were too far away.
Letter: Not a mine
During the POA televised meeting on July 15, Nancy Horton quoted from the Riverside County Ordinance 555, which she said proved that the grading operation on Goetz Hill was really a mining operation. Mr. Gibson adamantly claimed she was not telling the truth and was misleading the public.
Letter: Put Goetz Hill to a vote
We have owned two homes in Canyon Lake for approximately three years. We loved the Lake the first time we set eyes on it. As investors in the community, we expect the POA Board to uphold the CC&Rs and work to enhance our property values. Now we find that the POA has been selectively enforcing CC&Rs.
Letter: Misqouted in The Friday Flyer
In The Friday Flyer's recap of the August 15 POA meeting presentation by the Setback Committee there were more than just two property owners who spoke regarding this issue. The journalist correctly stated that I did not believe that the 160 property owners responding to the survey were a true representation of the entire community.
