Residents looking for a local place to store boats, RVs, trailers and other recreational "toys" have an option right here inside the gates with the completion of Canyon Lake Storage at Summerwood Landing. Since purchasing the property, formerly known as "Mobey's Landing" in 2004, Bartoli Fuhrman Investments has invested nearly $2 million in upgrading the storage options as well as security, creating what they call a more modern facility for residents.

Facility offers secure storage in Canyon Lake

The major remodel of what is now known as Canyon Lake Storage at Summerwood Landing is complete, with co-owner Dwayne Fuhrman announcing this week that the facility, located atop the hill off Loch Lomond Dr., is now ready to offer a full menu of storage options to residents.
These range from open parking on either gravel or concrete, covered concrete parking and fully enclosed garages measuring 12 ft. wide by 30-, 35-, 40- and 45 ft. long. In addition to upgraded storage areas, Canyon Lake Storage at Summerwood Landing stresses security, surrounded by 8-ft-high perimeter block wall and patrolled by 24-hour surveillance cameras. Manager Don Parker also lives on-site in a newly constructed two-story building that houses his office and 1,900 sq. ft. residence
“My hope is that this newly upgraded facility can help to be a part of the solution to the storage needs of Canyon Lake,” says Dwayne who, along with Joseph Bartoli, purchased the property in 2004 and immediately set out on the extensive renovation of the 40-year-old facility, formerly known as Mobey’s Landing.
The history of the storage yard goes back to 1968, when, shortly after the Corona Land Company began selling lots and building homes in the new community, Gordon Heath asked area pioneers, Don and Elinor Martin, if they could accommodate the storage of campers, boats and RVs belonging to weekenders and new homeowners on the property adjacent to their home. Since they had previously operated Martin’s Landing, a campground and boat rental facility at what is now Holiday Harbor, operating a storage yard and boat repair center out of sight on top of the hill made sense.
In February 1999, the Martins sold the storage yard to new owners and it became Mobey’s Landing, before being sold to Bartoli Fuhrman Investments in 2004. Dwayne, who owns a home in Canyon Lake, says he wanted to create something that would be a good investment as well as make the community proud.
To this date, Dwayne says his company has invested approximately $2 million in improvements and upgrades; he is especially proud that all of the contractors working on the remodel were local companies, with many from right inside the gates. Part of that work involved dismantling and removing the red barn and fencing erected by the Martins in 1947, when the family still ran cattle around Railroad Canyon Lake and needed a place to store hay and do their branding.
Even with that size of an investment, Dwayne says his aim has been to offer convenient storage to residents at reasonable prices, with rates lower than comparable storage facilities located outside the gates.
“With prices starting at $60 for a 12-ft. by 25-ft. space, Canyon Lake Storage offers the best value of any modern storage facility in the area,” Dwayne says, adding, “I am surprised at how many of our Canyon Lake neighbors still do not know that this modern facility is right here in Canyon Lake to serve the storage needs of the community.”
To that end, a formal grand opening is being planned with the date to be announced soon; in the meantime, residents are invited to stop by the facility, located at 22229 Loch Lomond Dr. anytime from dawn to dusk, seven days a week, to check it out, For more information, space availability or rates, contact Don Parker at 244-5575 or visit www.summerwoodlanding.com.
