Club News Twirlers The Twirlers host three series of classes a year for beginners. The next Phase One class begins January 28, at 7 p.m. in the Holiday Bay Room at the Lodge. The cycle is every Wednesday for 17 weeks. Canyon Lakers are invited to come out and give it a try. There is no charge for the first night of attendance. Square dancers who have not danced recently are encouraged to attend the classes as a refresher. Phase Two classes are held every Wednesday from 8:15 to 9:30 p.m. and teach the higher level calls, which prepare dancers to attend club level dances on the second Sunday of each month, as well as dances sponsored by other clubs. Round dance classes are offered on Mondays from 12 to 2 p.m.; advanced classes from 2 to 4 p.m. A beginner line dance class is held Tuesdays from 4:30 to 6 p.m. in the City Multi-purpose Room; all ages are welcome. A beginning to intermediate line dance class is offered Wednesdays from 3 to 5 p.m. in the Holiday Bay Room. Photography Club The Canyon Lake Photography Club named two new officers during its December meeting, with Jeanne Gulley assuming the role of secretary and Frann Krause now serving as treasurer. LeRoy Pasis of Photo Works in Temecula was the evening’s guest speaker, discussing aspects of image making and answering questions on a wide range of photography topics. The club’s next meeting is Thursday, January 29, at 6:30 p.m. downstairs at the Lodge. Members are asked to bring their primary camera and manual to the meeting. In addition to the regular meeting, club member Bert Barbay will lead a workshop entitled “Controlling White Balance to Improve Your Digital Photographs,” with both good and bad examples of white balance presented and discussed. A free drawing will be held for a one-year subscription to the magazine “Aftercapture.” Photography Club meetings are normally held the second Thursday of each month, and all residents are invited to attend and consider becoming members. Car Club The Car Club holds monthly meetings the first Thursday of each month at the Lodge. The next meeting is February 5. Cotillion Cotillion’s annual Valentine’s Party will be held February 6. Young gentlemen are requested to bring a small bouquet or some other type of flowers to show their appreciation to the young ladies for bringing homemade goodies to share. Canyon Lake Flowers in the Towne Center can make an inexpensive bouquet that will be appropriate for the evening. For questions on dress code or other information, contact Ed at 244-4500. CLAMS Members are reminded it is time to renew membership for the coming year. For those who have been thinking of joining, this is the time, according to Ken Dettling. The group’s annual schedule of events features seven modestly priced dinner meetings ($7 includes one drink per person) at the Country Club on the third Wednesday of each month, with cocktails at 6 p.m. and dinner at 7. The schedule includes a free lakeside picnic in June and a free cocktail party in July, with member’s spouse or companion welcome. Club members are invited to participate in a spring golf tournament, September’s annual trip to Laughlin and booths at Fiesta Day and Oktoberfest. Pinochle Club It’s a new year and new members are welcomed to join the Pinochle Club, which plays every Thursday at 6:30 p.m. in the Towne Center Conference Room. The spring dinner dance, “Riches to Rags,” on March 6 will feature music by Ricky “B” and the Stingers. Prizes will be awarded for the most original, humorous and outstanding attire. Three new multi-day trips are now planned: “Death Valley Quest,” April 26 to 29, $439, reservations open to members on March 2; “Albuquerque Balloon Festival,” October 6 to 13; $949, reservations open to members on July 6; and “Coastal Costa Rica” November 11 to 19, $2,349 double occupancy, $2,849 single, member reservations now open. For more information, contact Gene Ebel at 244-9462. Art Association The Art Association invites all Canyon Lakers to watch guest demonstrator, John G. Heinrichs, on Thursday, February 5, from 7 to 9 p.m. in the City Multi-Purpose Room. John is a professional, award-winning artist who paints landscapes and seascapes in oils, acrylics and watercolors. He has worked under several noted artists, including Bill Blackman and Joseph Yarnell. He is an Alexander Certified instructor and International Certification Coordinator for Alexander Art. John has written training materials to train instructors for certification. In addition, he has produced instructional art techniques videos for beginners and artists to learn painting techniques. The Art Association meets in the City Multi-purpose Room on the first Thursday of every month from 7 to 9 p.m. and is open to all residents. Every Monday from 7 to 9 p.m. the Art Association hosts a “Monday Night Painters” workshop at Blue Bird Hall.
