More from the POA Board meeting: Directors' Reports, Oral Communications Directors’ Reports • President’s Report – Kreg McCoy was absent from Tuesday’s meeting. • Vice-President’s Report – Representing the Green Committee, Director Kestell reported the Golf Course is in good shape; the fairways are dormant and a few high-traffic areas of thin grass have been roped off. Guy was unable to attend the Public Safety meeting on January 6. He did attend a joint meeting of the POA, City and EVMWD, where there was discussion on a number of items, one of the foremost being what is being done to train local agencies in preventing the spread of quagga mussles. He also attended the Community Patrol Committee meeting, which held discussions on Neighborhood Watch and similar citizen patrol programs. • Treasurer Randy Bonner – Director Bonner’s comments and charts are printed on Pages A-8 and 9. • Secretary David Johnston – As liaison for the Long-Range Planning Committee, Director Johnston expressed the Committee’s concern that it hasn’t been able to do anything in the last several years toward its long-range goals due to lack of POA funds. Some of the long-range goals include the Lodge bar expansion, redesign of the Main Gate, building an amphitheater at Indian Beach or Holiday Harbor and using a biological approach to eliminating sediment in the East Bay. The Campground Committee has a plan to change the angle of parking at the Campground to a herringbone pattern. The Committee does not want to change the Campground fees in fiscal year 2009-2010. It is working with the Campground Club to raise money for improvements at Happy Camp. Directors approved the minutes of the November 21 Board meeting. • Director Jordan Ehrenkranz – As liaison to the Equestrian Committee, Director Ehrenkranz noted the Committee does not want to change fees for fiscal year 2009-2010. It has requested weather stripping for the tag lockers. Mindful of the economy, the Tuesday Work Group (TWG) has scaled back on major projects on the Golf Course in 2009-2010. It still is working on minor projects. Jordan commended the group for its work on the hillside logo. The Senior Committee is thankful for the new TV at the Senior Center. It is a hand-me-down from the Country Club after Jim Magill’s purchase of a new TV there. The Committee is looking into purchasing a Wii game to use at the Senior Center. The Christmas party was a huge success. Oral Communications: • Speaking on behalf of Mayor Mary Craton and the City of Canyon Lake, Councilman Marty Gibson thanked President McCoy for attending the recent City Council meeting and for the ongoing cooperation between the POA and the City. Marty discussed several City matters, including the trail crossing planned outside the North Gate, City Council members attending the League of Cities workshop and improving crime statistics as discussed at the Public Safety Meeting • Mavis Kerr, a 40-year pioneer of Canyon Lake and chair of the Senior Committee, reminded residents the Senior Center hosts a potluck and dance the last Sunday of every month. “The band is fabulous, there are good dancers and we would love to see more new faces,” she says. The next potluck is this Sunday. • John Stelzner asked the Board to consider changing its Road Project schedule, suggesting the Board insist the utility companies to do an acceptable job of paving Longhorn Dr. so that Canyon Lake Dr. South could be completed first. • Sherry Way wondered if there might be a conflict of interest regarding Director Ehrenkranz’ service on the POA Board. • Stanley Hase wants to propose a low cost service to the Board that would clean up foreclosed properties in Canyon Lake. • Elizabeth Krause, a member of the Parks and Beaches Committee, asked the Board to adopt a rule that would ban smoking in Canyon Lake parks, beaches and public areas. |
