Golf Course upcoming events
     - Women’s Club Queens Cup began January 13; the last rounds will be held January27 and February 5.
     - Men’s Team Play will be held January 29, 31, February 12 and 14.
     - Men’s Valentine Tournament will be held February 7.
     - Maintenance Day (course closed) will be on February 9.
     - Women’s Club Presidents Cup will be held February 12, 17 and 19.
     - Women’s SB&R Tournament

Employee recognition
     Each year the Association honors its long term and outstanding employees at an “Annual Awards Banquet.” This year Management has made the decision to cancel this event to save the costs, but still honor those long term and outstanding employees at an awards ceremony. This ceremony is scheduled to take place January 27, from 7 to 9 a.m.
     As a result, the Association’s offices will open at 9 a.m. on Tuesday, January 27, in order for all employees to take part in this event. The POA thanks members for their understanding.

POA statistics
     For the month of November, Members Services issued seven fishing permits and 55 garage sale permits. Also issued were 128 photo ID cards, 913 vehicle decals, 13 boat decals and four street cart decals. There were 28 new open escrows and 24 closed escrows.
     In December, Members Services issued nine fishing permits and 28 garage sale permits. Also issued were 108 photo ID cards, 1,107 vehicle decals, 11 boat decals and six street cart decals. There were 24 new open escrows and 29 closed escrows.

Road Project
     The Operations Department conducted a pre-bid job walk during the week of January 12. Bids will be due back by January 28. Staff will review the bids after the opening and prepare a summary for the Board’s February meeting.

Operations set-ups
     The Operations Department set up 207 functions serving approximately 8,608 people in December. This included setting up 1,336 tables and 7,678 chairs. In labor, there were 294 hours of set-up, 302.5 hours of tear-down and 12 hours of overtime.

Vandalism
     Operation Manager Paul Johnson reports that, in November, there were 28 acts of graffiti and vandalism cleaned and repaired. The cost of materials was $299. Labor hours totaled 30.5. The total cost for materials and labor was $525 for graffiti and $1,874 for minor vandalism.
     In December, there were 38 acts of graffiti and vandalism cleaned and repaired. The cost of materials was $906.74. Labor hours totaled 49. The total cost for materials and labor was $1,125 for graffiti and $2,231.74 for minor vandalism.

Foreclosure write-offs
     In the month of October, the Association wrote off $53,454 in assessments. It also wrote off $3,915 in Community Patrol fines, $25,108 in ACC fines and $200 in Marine Patrol fines. The total foreclosures write-off for the month of October was $82,677.
     In the month of November, the Association wrote off $34,654 in assessments. It also wrote off $3,950 in Community Patrol fines, $15,175 in ACC fines and $150 in Marine Patrol fines. The total foreclosures write-off for the month of November was $53,929.
     In the month of December, the Association wrote off $38,062 in assessments. It also wrote off $1,375 in Community Patrol fines, $3,200 in ACC fines and $100 in Marine Patrol fines. The total foreclosures write-off for the month of December was $42,737.

Time for clubs to submit status
     It’s time for club presidents to submit verification their clubs are meeting the requirements to be a sanctioned club in Canyon Lake. All sanctioned clubs must meet the community service and residency standards as set forth in the rules.
     In an effort to maintain current records, each club president is required to forward the names, addresses and phone numbers of club officers, current membership and residency location, as well as community service verification to the Canyon Lake Activities Department.
     In addition, clubs should reserve facilities they will need for events in 2010. Reservations should be made no later than March 31, because reservations will be accepted for private events beginning April 1.
     The Fiesta Day Committee is looking for additional members who are interested in helping put together the biggest event of the year in Canyon Lake. The group will be having its first meeting in January. Those interested in lending a hand should call Kathie Barnes in the Activities Department at 246-1761.

Environmental accomplishment
     The Canyon Lake POA received a Certificate of Environmental Accomplishment for its participation in the “Shred-it” shredding and recycling program. According to the company that issued the certificate, the recycling program “saved 15 trees from destruction in 2008.”

Rules and Regulations
     The 2009 Canyon Lake Property Owners Association Rules and Regulations and Governing Documents can be picked up at the Member Services desk or can be accessed 24/7 on the Association’s website at www.canyonlakepoa.com.

Adult jewelry making classes
     Laura Souder is teaching jewelry making classes for ages 16 and older. Classes for beginner to intermediate level are taught in a variety of media, including polymer clay jewelry, beaded jewelry and customized watch design. No experience is necessary and tools are provided to use in class.
     Classes are held the first and third Tuesday of every month from 6 to 8 p.m. at Blue Bird Hall. The cost is $30 per session or $125 for a five-session plan. Sign up at the Member Services desk or by calling the Activities Department at 244-6841, ext. 610.

Watch POA Board meeting
     Residents who would rather watch the POA Board meeting on Tuesday, February 17, from home can tune in to Time Warner Cable Channel 29. The POA also has made it convenient to watch the meeting over the Internet by going to www.canyonlakepoa.com. In the links column on the lefthand side of the home page, click on “POA Board;” then click on “Streaming Video.” The meeting begins at 7 p.m.

Photos wanted!
     The POA is inviting residents to send in photos of Canyon Lake to publish on the website at www.canyonlakepoa.com. The goal is to add new photos each week to the home page.
     Residents will be asked to fill out an image release form consenting to the use of photos for publication, display, advertising, editorial illustration, website, etc. Minors depicted in photos must be identified, with the parents or legal guardians giving their consent for the use of their images.
     Photos may be e-mailed to Corporate Administration Manager Laurie Owen at lowen@canyonlakepoa.com. She will provide the image release form at that time.

Open House
     Property owners have the opportunity to meet with General Manager Clint Warrell, Controller Ron Phipps, Barton Account Manager Vince Schiavi and Operations Manager Paul Johnson, who all hold open houses in their respective offices on Wednesdays from 2 to 3:30 p.m.

Exercise with Baby
     To help new moms get off to a strong start in the new year, instructor Leslie Kahn is offering a New Year’s special: For the months of January and February classes will be $5 a class (instead of the normal $8) or $50 for a ten-class pass.
     Exercise With Baby class times are Monday and Wednesday, 9 to 10 a.m., and Tuesday and Thursday, 8:30 to 9:30 a.m. All classes are held at Holiday Harbor.
     Leslie invites all moms and kids with a sturdy stroller to come give the class a try with a free week trial pass. The classes are a 60-minute total body workout. Chair volleyball
     Chair volleyball meets Friday mornings at 9:30 a.m. in the Holiday Bay Room. There is no charge to participate.

You’re responsible!
     According to access control rule 3.205, “the Prime Member is responsible for the actions of his/her family, guests, renters and lessees and for any charges, fines or other liabilities incurred by them.”

Rent a dock
     There are openings at the marina at the Lodge. The annual fee is prorated. To reserve a dock now, call the Accounting Department at 244-6841, ext. 234.
      ~
     Nuisance rule
     The POA is enforcing the nuisance rules as they relate to loud and offensive music on the Lake and other POA common facilities. “Use of offensive language” in a common area is one of the prohibited activities under Rule 13 of Section II, General Rules.
     Playing such offensive language in recorded music at a POA common area, park or on the Lake is a “use” of that language that qualifies as a nuisance, according to the Board and is subject to citation under the rules.

ACH program
     Canyon Lakers are reminded that they can sign up for an automatic monthly withdrawal program to pay their assessments. Sign up at the Administration Office.

Booking amenities
     Canyon Lakers interested in hosting a party or other special occasion should consider using the Lodge, Country Club, Blue Bird Hall, Towne Center Conference Room or Magnolia Room.
     More information about these rooms can be found on the “Amenities and Activities” link at www.canyonlake poa.com. Some of the parks also have facilities that can be reserved.

POA ID cards
     Member Services is issuing new POA ID cards as needed as members come into the office. All cards will now have an expiration date, according to Member Services Manager Lynn Jensen. Prime and Associate Members’ cards will expire every four years. Children Associate Members’ cards will expire every four years or when someone turns 21, whichever occurs first. Sub-Associate/Resident Member cards will expire every year from when the membership is issued/renewed.

Spelling, please
     Canyon Lakers should be prepared to spell the last and first names of their guests when they call them in to the POA. According to Member Services, even if a person’s name is one letter off, it could mean he or she will not come up on the computer at the gate.

Appealing?
     Those waiting to appear before the Appeals Committee are reminded that they will be notified by mail as to the date they are to attend their hearing. Some people have been showing up at committee meetings not realizing that their cases will not be heard until they receive a notice in the mail, according to Member Services.
     In addition, to be heard by the Appeals Committee, the Prime Member or another person on the property’s title must appear. If a guest or renter wants to appear, he or she may do so, but must be accompanied by the property owner as well. Sign-in for Appeals Hearings take place at 5 p.m. for hearings that will begin at 5:30.

POA gift card
     The POA is offering gift cards that can be used at the Country Club and Lighthouse Restaurant, as well as for services and activities provided by the POA. Gift cards are available in increments of $5 and up and can be purchased at the Member Services Counter.

Street sweeper
     Residents with questions regarding the community’s street sweeper can contact Interstate Sweeping Services at 800-310-3002. According to the Operations Department, the company is very responsive to its customers and good about returning calls.
