Hot air

The sun wasn't the only object in a cloudless, blue sky on Saturday, September 26. Although it isn't entirely unusual to see a hot air balloon in Canyon Lake – they have been known to touch down on the Golf Course and North Causeway, skim the surface of the East Bay and hover above Skipper's Island – the sight still draws "oohs and ahs" from residents and provokes a flurry of picture-taking. This photo was provided by Pam Lach; more can be found in this week's issue of The Friday Flyer. |

City Connection: RRC Rd. beautification continues
If the trees and shrubs along Railroad Canyon Rd. look greener and healthier, there’s a good reason. Movie Reviews by Reel People: 'Surrogates'
Live your life vicariously through a younger, better looking and more physically able you! Beyond fantasy football, reality TV and other couch potato pastimes, there is an ever increasing interest in virtual reality over actual reality. If not careful, a surrogate society could degrade into what we might call “Charley McCarthy-ism” (think about that one).
Mom About Town: Whip up a batch of fun!
I am all about good, cheap family fun. Outings with coupons, homemade playthings and anything that gets the kids excited and involved without clearing out my bank account get a thumbs-up from me. I grew up like that. My sisters and I made life-sized paper dolls and spent hours coloring them in and making joints at the arms and legs with brads.
