City Connection: AFV seeks to clear up mix-up

Canyon Lake dog owners who may have received a postcard from the County of Riverside Department of Animal Services instructing them to purchase a County animal license for a recently vaccinated dog received those notices in error, and any resident who did purchase a license is entitled to a refund of the fees paid.
According to Willa Bagwell of Animal Friends of the Valleys, Canyon Lake residents are only required to have a City license and she has asked the County to send out letters explaining the error. Residents who did purchase county licenses can contact Laurie Dozier of the Department of Animal Services at 358-7159 or via e-mail at LDozier@co.riverside.ca.us to obtain a refund of their fees.
Residents also need to be aware that if they have purchased a county license but not a City license they are not in compliance, says Willa. State laws and City ordinances mandate that all dogs over the age of 4 months must have a valid rabies vaccination and must be licensed. AFV recently began door to door canvassing to ensure compliance.
Residents who need to purchase a license for their dog can do so at AFV’s administration office, located at 33751 Mission Trail in Wildomar, from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday, or at the shelter, 29001 Bastron Rd. in Lake Elsinore, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Saturday. License applications also can be printed from the home page of the AFV website at www.animalfriendsofthevalleys.com and mailed in with a self-addressed envelope. For more information, call 674-0618.
