Schnauzer hangs 10 in Huntington Beach contest

Nash Adams is one cool surfer dude dog. Even his real name is cool – “Moment of Glory.” Of course, if his mom, Kristyl Adams, wanted to call him by his real name and abbreviated it, she might call him Mommy and that probably wouldn’t be cool, so she calls him Nash.
The name “Nash” has dash. And that’s what the 3 1/2-year-old black and silver miniature schnauzer had when he competed in a surf contest in Huntington Beach on July 11. The “Surfin’ Paws Dog Jam” was held at Surf City’s very own dog beach and even included a red carpet awards event at the Hilton Huntington Beach.
Nash’s moment of glory was making it to shore on his foam surfboard, which is what he has been trained to do in surf clinics held at the Newport Jetty, according to Kristyl, who is not a surfer. She says she or a helper from the Surfin’ Paws clinic go out in the waves to push him off; then he is welcomed when he arrives at shore. He always wears a life vest and sometimes wears goggles.
“My husband, Clive, will be going to the clinic from now on with me to do the pushing off,” she says. “Nash is new at it and doing great!” The Surfin’Paws Dog Jam was a fundraiser to benefit Orange County Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (OCSPCA).
Kristyl says when Nash isn’t surfing or guarding his home in Canyon Lake he works as a therapy dog. He also is a member of the Miniature Schnauzer Club of Southern California.
