Fire cleanup continues
Progress continues in the salvage and cleanup of nine units destroyed in a spectacular fire that raged through a Towne Center office building on July 17. In August 1974, Canyon Lake was six years old. A "Hollywood Style" western barbecue was featured at the Lodge Pool and attended by a large group of local residents and their guests. Movie Reviews by Reel People: 'Aliens in the Attic'
A good pre-adolescent kid-flick is full of action, physical humor and empowerment. In the spirit of ÒGooniesÓ (1985), ÒAliens in the AtticÓ is a lot of fun if youÕre between the ages of 6 and 16. Fortunately, parents who get dragged along wonÕt mind too much. The story is directed to a young audience, but it managed to keep our interest and attention.
Teen Talk: Genre means nothing to real lovers of music
From as early as I can remember, I have always loved music, no matter what kind it was. I listened to composers like Beethoven and Bach, pop artists like Britney Spears and ’N Sync, rock groups like Def Leppard and Nirvana and punk bands such as Sex Pistols and Clit 45. I have an eclectic style when it comes to the type of music I like so you could say I’m not very picky when it comes to what I will listen to (aside from rap).
Letter: Driving safely
In response to Mr. Mericle’s July 24 letter, it’s the responsibility of the Community Patrol to enforce all of the safety rules of our community. Can you imagine the liability the POA would face if they didn’t and someone got hurt because of the lack of enforcement? We are very fortunate to have retired police officers volunteer their time on the Community Patrol Committee.
Letter: Move on
Kudos to Dawn Haggerty for her recent letter to the City Council. I agree with her completely. In my opinion, the Council has made two big mistakes since the recent election. One of them was the ill-conceived attempt to annex Meadowbrook and a part of what was already Lake Elsinore. What made us think Lake Elsinore would give up land that they already had plans to develop?
Letter: 80th birthday party
I would like to thank Marty Gibson for giving a beautiful 80th birthday party for me at his restaurant. It was the best party I’ve ever had! I’m a pioneer here and have lived here for 40 years and love it. Another great thing Marty has done!

Recap of the August Board meeting
There was standing room only during Tuesday night’s Board meeting. Directors in attendance were President Randy Bonner, Vice-President Michelle Gordon, Secretary David Johnston and Treasurer Steve Salazar. Director Guy Kestell was away on family business. For residents of all ages who desire a convenient way to expand their knowledge of computers and various applications, the POA is offering a new schedule of computer classes, beginning in September. Active seniors take a seat for chair volleyball
With almost 40 active members, the newly sanctioned “Chair Volleyball Club for Seniors” has only one important rule: “cheeks on the chair, feet on the floor,” explained to participants by facilitator Debbi Harper when she first started the exercise class in March 2008. Now, calling itself the Canyon Lakers, the group boasts two teams that compete against each other and against other chair volleyball teams in the area.
Wii!
Seniors at the Senior Center also are staying active with their Monday bowling league on a Wii game system. ÒThe Monday afternoon game players will be adding more games soon, but need to know your preferences in Wii games,Ó says spokesperson Sher Adamson. ÒWould you help us so we can purchase games other than bowling that all may enjoy?Ó Interested seniors are invited to join the group Mondays at 1 p.m. with their ideas or call Ed Doidge at 244-1561.
President's Report
Confessing that he sees things through “rose-colored glasses,” Randy Bonner gave an uplifting President’s report at Tuesday night’s POA meeting. Though he began his discussion with the devastating fire that destroyed a number of businesses in the Towne Center two weeks ago, Randy assured everyone that the entire community shares the loss. He expressed sorrow for the store owners, merchants, employees and customers and gave his appreciation to the Fire Departments, Police, the EVMWD and the City and POA staffs.
