Recent storms have provided the kind of skies photographers seek to capture from sunrise to sunset. Bonny Tucker was rewarded last week when golden rays from the setting sun slipped under the low clouds to bathe the East Bay in their glow.

This Week's Official CLPOA News

Pepe's sign may get more than a facelift
Residents have a few days to comment on a new look that may be in store for the entrance to the Towne Center. Signs seeking to replace the existing pylon sign located outside of Pepe’s Restaurant with a new multi-tenant pylon sign for the Towne Center.

Visitors find hot cars, hot weather at show
The 5th annual Car Show on October 2 was a wonderland of metal, brilliant paint jobs, gleaming engines, unusual tires and accessories and amazed spectators as customized or restored pre-1973 cars and trucks filled the parking lot at the Lodge. According to spokesperson Joe Landin, there were 212 cars in the show this year.

City Connection
The State of the City luncheon, commemorative bricks for veterans, CERT training and other upcoming events.

City Connection: Foreclosed properties face new requirements
The City of Canyon Lake has learned a lot since it passed an ordinance in May 2009 that required all owners of foreclosed properties to register with the City and pay an annual fee. After more than a year of experience with the ordinance and its registration process, changes were proposed and adopted on October 6 that address maintenance and security issues and provides for procedures and enforcement.

In conjunction with Halloween, two special events are planned. The first will be held on Monday, October 18, when paranormal investigators from the Golden State Paranormal Research Society will speak about “ghosts” from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. Also, the engaging storyteller, Michael McCarty, will tell scary stories (but not too scary) on Wednesday, October 20, from 4 to 5 p.m.

Farmers Market
Vendors continue bringing fresh fruits and vegetables, prepared foods, freshly barbecued meat, flowers, plants, birds, crafts and a variety of other items. Boy Scout Troop 604 will be holding a popcorn fundraiser each Sunday through October.

Miss Canyon Lake brings 'Heart' to town
It’s been just a few years since Jordan Lockey was a teen reporter for The Friday Flyer and readers “grew up with her,” so to speak during her high school years. Now she is a junior at the University of California Santa Barbara. When Jordan was crowned Miss Canyon Lake on September 18, she announced the platform on which she will focus during her term on the Royal Court. She was invited to share that platform via The Friday Flyer.

Canyon Lake Middle School Cheer and the Green Team/Leo’s Club are planning their first annual e-waste fundraiser event in the school parking lot on Saturday, October 30, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Residents are invited to start saving their e-waste to help support the CLMS Cheer Squad and Green Team.

Movie Reviews by Reel People: 'The Social Network'
Although some consider it a social disease, “Facebook” is now the premier electronic social networking site with 500 million subscribers. A few years prior, nerds were proud to churn out the next version of Donkey Kong. But, technological advancements, similar prior offerings and these central characters were perfectly aligned to shape history.

Start your morning right with breakfast bars.

Letter: Editor\'s note
In the interest of giving City Council candidates a chance to respond to Letters to the Editor containing perceived misinformation about their candidacy, letters about specific candidates will not be accepted after the October 15 issue of The Friday Flyer.

Letter: Best interests
This November we are voting for Ben Wicke in his re-election bid to serve on the Elsinore Valley Municipal Water District Board of Directors.

Letter: Miss my friend
As I write this, tears are flowing down my face. A simple thought brings back the pain of loss. It seems as though the despair will not go away. I lost one of my best friends this past Saturday.

Letter: Marine Patrol
I have been waterskiing and wakeboarding on Canyon Lake since 1978 and it’s one of the best keep secrets in Southern California. I love this Lake.

Letter: Goetz Rd. detour
I am of the understanding that it will be quite some time yet before construction begins on the Goetz Rd. area.

Letter: Golf pro
Again, Dawn Haggerty has shown the type of person she really is. As a board member of the Women’s Golf Club, it would seem she would be trying to heal some of the animosity in the golf clubs, but instead she took the low road and decided to kick Dave while he is down.

Letter: Candidate questions
I would like the candidates to answer the following questions:

Letter: Clean sweep
Canyon Lakers are responsible for the mess our City government is. Our lack of attention and involvement in matters has led to the looting of our bank account.

Letter: Candidate considerations
Two years ago, John Zaitz was badly defeated for City Council by two newcomers because most residents were fed up with his time on the City Council.

Letter: Simply go away
I cannot figure out if John Zaitz thinks we are either collectively suffering from a lack of memory or just plain dumb, but in either case Mr. Zaitz is apparently hoping we just don’t remember what this candidate has “contributed” to making our community better in his past failed attempts at public office.

Letter: 'Good Old Boy'
In an October 1 advertisement in The Friday Flyer, a candidate for City Council called himself a “Good Old Boy.” He also extolled himself for the many things he accomplished while serving as one member of a five-member POA Board. One has to recognize his positive contributions in the past.

Letter: Power to do something
Last Friday I read in the letters to the editor a number of reasons not to re-elect incumbents. However, there is one incumbent we cannot afford to lose.

Letter: Results are what matter
We need Council members who know how to get results. People that have shown the ability to analyze numbers and make good financial decisions.

Letter: Positive addition
I served with Randy Bonner on a Canyon Lake POA committee and I feel that I know him very well.
