Cross Hill

This site is one many Canyon Lakers view from their homes but few ever see up close - the cross at the top of the hill behind Canyon Lake Community Church. According to area pioneer Elinor Martin, who wrote the pictorial history book, "Images of America: Canyon Lake," the cross was placed on the highest hill overlooking Canyon Lake by a group from the church in April 1973. About a dozen men, led by Rick and Rae Simonson, Don and Steve Martin, Hal Skinner and Bruce Lord constructed the cross with 20-ft. by 12-ft. lumber and a concrete base. "The Friday Hikers" took this picture. To see more of their ventures to the top of local hills, see this issues story "The Friday Hikers' tackle local hills."

While Potter fans celebrate the greatest Harry Potter movie to date, we Muggles found this feature to be about as interesting, exciting and long as a Ken Burns PBS special.
