Work on Goetz/Newport bridge to begin next month
Work is expected to begin in early 2011 on widening Goetz Rd. and completing improvements to Newport Rd. that will enhance traffic flow in Menifee and Canyon Lake.

Trio of events to take place this weekend
Snow Day at Holiday Harbor will be held tomorrow, December 4, from noon to 4 p.m. On Sunday, December 5, adults will enjoy the Woman's Club "Joy of Christmas" Holiday Home Tour. Also on December 5, a Tree-Lighting Ceremony and related festivities will take place at the Lodge.

'Joy of Christmas' Home Tour is Sunday
Residents who have not yet picked up their tickets for the Woman’s Club “Joy of Christmas” Home Tour can stop by the Pool View Room at the Lodge Sunday morning, December 5, anytime after 9 a.m. The boutique and viewing of drawing items begins at that time. Tea, coffee and dessert will be served. The Home Tour is scheduled from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., followed by the opportunity drawing at the Lodge at 3:30. Tickets for the Home Tour are $15.

City Connection: Mayor aimed to educate during monthly 'Coffee'
When Mayor Nancy Horton held her “Coffee with the Mayor” meeting at Surfer Bean Café on November 30 it was yet to be determined whether it would be her last monthly meeting as the acting mayor of Canyon Lake. As it turned out, it was her last as mayor, but Nancy says she plans to continue the monthly meetings in her new position as mayor pro tem.

City Connection: CLPD hopes to see theft statistics drop in CL
The Canyon Lake Police Department, in a cooperative effort with the City of Canyon Lake and the Property Owners Association, has initiated a public awareness campaign to educate the residents of Canyon Lake on theft prevention.

At a meeting of the Public Safety Committee on November 30, CLPD Cpl. Ole Williams reported the Canyon Lake Police Department handled 292 files in September, down from 381 in October.

Canyon Lake residents are encouraged to place a blue light in their front windows in remembrance of police officers killed in the line of duty and to honor all those in law enforcement who strive to keep Americans safe from crime.

CLCC members roll up their sleeves to help
It seems a community wide cleanup that took place in Canyon Lake Sunday, November 28, was contagious, according to organizers. About 150 volunteers from Canyon Lake Community Church cleaned up nearly two-dozen neglected and weed-infested properties in Canyon Lake as part of a citywide outreach.

CL Barber Shop celebrates grand opening
Nancy Vinson was unemployed and had a friend who owned a barbershop. While she was visiting one day she thought it looked like a lot of fun and asked her how to become a barber. The friend told her about a school that was located right around the corner – and so began the journey to owning Canyon Lake Barber Shop, located in the Can Do Plaza in the Towne Center.

Hanukkah commemorates Jews' 'miracle of oil'
Hanukkah (or Chanukah), the Jewish festival of rededication, also known as the Festival of Lights, is an eight-day festival beginning on the 25th day of the Jewish month of Kislev. This year, Jews began the celebration of Chanukah with the lighting of the first candle of the menorah on December 1. The celebration will conclude December 9.

Organizer offers personal invitation to Christmas celebration
“You know the feeling you get when you walk into a party or event that’s been well planned? You feel welcomed by the good sights and smells of decorations and warm food. You spot friends or neighbors who have already arrived. You know you’re in for a good time when you hear live music at one end of the place and a DJ filling the down time with jokes and popular music. How great it was to be invited, you think to yourself!”

Don't miss chance to be in Parade of Lights
The boat parade is just one week away on December 11. “That does not mean you need to panic if you were planning to put your boat in the parade and have not yet gotten started,” says Yacht Club spokesperson Dennis Pitts. “But it does mean now is the time to get things going.”

Be careful to protect pets from holiday hazards
With Christmas and New Year fast approaching, it is important that pet owners are aware that holidays can create special dangers for their furry friends. Animal Friends of the Valley (AFV) advises that, as the cold weather approaches, it is important that all pets are indoors at night. It is required by law that animals be provided with shelter from the elements.

Golfers welcome new Golf Pro and staff at Country Club
The community welcomes new Golf Pro Pat Kemball, who began working under contract for the CLPOA in October. Working for Pat are Golf Shop staff Ian Nelson, Josh Schlomer and Kyle Inman. Helping with the Outside Services are Garret Frazier, Renaldo Chiang, TJ Keigwin and Kevin Keigwin. The Course Marshals are Dennis Pitts, Al Cariss and Rick Budge.

Median Christmas trees to be lit this weekend
This is the last weekend for clubs, organizations and businesses to get their names out to the public and spread holiday cheer by purchasing a live or artificial Christmas tree and decorating it for the median in time for the annual Tree Lighting Ceremony this Sunday, December 5.

Members need ID cards with printed expiration date
The POA is requiring that all ID cards have a printed expiration date by December 31, 2010.

The Lighthouse Bar and Grill will be open during the Woman's Club Holiday Home Tour and Boutique, as well as the Jr. Women's Club/POA Tree Lighting Ceremony this Sunday, December 5, at the Lodge. Specials that day will include Baileys and coffee drinks for $4.50.

Women will have the perfect excuse to bring along their husbands to the Woman's Club Holiday Home Tour and Boutique this Sunday, December 5, since the Chargers/Raiders game will be showing in the Lighthouse Bar and Grill.

In addition to the regular menu, a portion of which is shown at left, tonight's dinner specials are Petit Filet Mignon with baked potato and seasoned vegetables for $16.95 and Grilled Ahi Tuna Sandwich with Monterey Jack cheese, Dijon mustar, Ceasar dressing and romaine lettuce with french fries for $13.95. Dinner specials include house salad and rolls.

During the busy holiday season, members are reminded they don't have to wait until business hours to call in a guest; they can "call in" a guest on the website any time of the day or night.

Planning and Compliance: Here are definitions of property setbacks
The CC&Rs call for front, side and rear setback restrictions for all lots. Each numbered lot also includes a Community Setback, defined as the area between the curb line and the front line. The depth of this setback varies between 4 and 22 feet, depending on the width of the street in front of the lot.

Notice to members regarding Budget workshops
The Board of Directors will be holding four Budget Workshops during the month of December. The Workshops will be open meetings. The public is invited to observe interaction between the Board of Directors and staff.
