Phase 2 work actually began almost a year ago, following the completion of EVMWD’s Longhorn Dr. Sewer Replacement Project. Before that was EVMWD’s Longhorn Lift Station Project. Along the way, Verizon also came in with equipment to lay FiOS cable. Just when it looked like the years of construction on those projects were over and the replacement of asphalt on Longhorn Dr. could begin in earnest, a break in the main waterline in May 2009 revealed the entire 7,200 linear feet of waterline underneath the roadway would need to be replaced from Appaloosa Dr. to Vacation Dr. Work on replacing the waterline didn’t begin until September 2009; it was completed just before Thanksgiving. As IPS equipment once again moved in to continue the work of replacing asphalt in three consecutive 60,000 sq. ft. sections, problems were encountered with the recently completed EVMWD waterline trenches, necessitating more delays until those issues were resolved. The fact that it has been a rainy winter also has delayed the road project, originally scheduled to be completed today, March 12. Operations Manager Paul Johnson says paving of the second section, as well as corrections to the Treasure Island Causeway, are expected to be completed today. Removal of asphalt in the third and final 60,000 sq. ft. section is scheduled to begin Monday. That phase is expected to be finished in 10 days. There will be two weeks to let the asphalt “rest,” then fog sealing and striping will complete the project. |
