When the sun is shining and temperatures mild, what could be better than sitting on the dock with your little boy, your pooch and a fishing pole in hand? Photographer Bert Barbay snaps many such scenes of residents enjoying the Lake when he's out in his boat or golf cart. |

Residents\' contributions add \'color\' to paper
Readers are reminded The Friday Flyer depends on residents who live or work in the community for much of the interesting news and photos that appear in its pages. Here is a list of ongoing features to which all residents are invited to contribute.
A Canyon Lake cutie finds her name
Sydney Manning is a cutie but this picture doesn't qualify for "Canyon Lake Cuties" because it was taken at the San Diego Zoo instead of in Canyon Lake. But it is a good example of a new category in "Near and Far with The Friday Flyer" called "Find your Name." Since no one knows when they'll find their name, a copy of The Friday Flyer is requested but not a requirement for this category.
Arts and Entertainment
Movie Reviews by Reel People: 'How to Train Your Dragon."
Leapin’ lizards, if you want to see a dazzling dragon movie (and who doesn’t), catch the animated feature, “How to Train Your Dragon,” in 3D and IMAX at selected theaters. The characters are well grounded, but the story soars high enough to become an instant childhood classic. And, it’s actually fun, exciting and entertaining for the entire family.
Betsy's Best Bets: Spring free from confusion with 'Dear Betsy'
Easter always seems to sneak up on me. I thought it was just me not paying attention and being really groggy from the dreaded “spring forward” time change, but the idea that Easter never falls on a definite day has always baffled me.

Letter: Voting for Sean
As a homeowner, I’m greatly concerned about what I’ve been hearing; if even one fraction is true, we all have reason to be very concerned.
Letter: Vandalism in Canyon Lake
Vandalism, in Canyon Lake, is very expensive. It is a waste of the property owners’ annual assessments. It cost $52,495.31 in 372 incidents for the period July 2008 through June 2009 and $26,380.48 in 220 incidents for the period of July 2009 through December 2009.
Letter: Report vandalism
I wanted to write and apologize to those of you who may have been sprayed by unruly sprinklers on the slope north of Railroad Canyon Rd.
Letter: Submit cost-reducing ideas
Last week’s The Friday Flyer informed us our assessments for this year would remain unchanged. And the “powers-to-be” felt like this was supposed to be a great blessing for our community. Granted, it was not an increase; however, to me it is a show of poor financial planning by those in charge.
Letter: Vote for strong goals
Truly we need leadership that is change motivated. Chuck Newsom has knowledge of what is happening in Canyon Lake and will do something to correct our past reckless management.

Near and Far: Olympic flame burns on in hearts of residents
A final memory for most people watching this year’s Winter Olympics in Vancouver, Canada, undoubtedly was the hockey finals between the U.S. and Canada. In an exciting overtime finish, Canada prevailed to win the gold medal – disappointing for Americans watching from home but thrilling for three Canyon Lakers who were able to attend the closing ceremony and experience the exuberance of their northern neighbors.
