Quackers

Canyon Lake is beginning to 'make way for ducklings' - and goslings - in all their downy glory. The fuzzy little beings peep and chirp and toddle their way down streets and beaches and a few unlikely places. This family of 15 (three are out of the picture) made themselves at home on the sandy seawall of Kevin and Carol Winn's home, as photographed by Bill Corbin. But Operations Administrator Sandy Healy says her office got a frantic call from a mother and kids one recent evening about a family of ducklings stranded in a manhole by the Lake. After one Operations crewmember's tight descent into the manhole to 'rescue' the ducklings, it was determined the mom and pop had deliberately laid their eggs in the secure location, and there was plenty of room to get out of the pipe on the other side.

Movie Reviews by Reel People: 'The Back-Up Plan'
It’s J-Lo, what else do you need to know? This lightweight rom-com is predictable, easy to watch and easy on the eyes – are we right guys? J-Lo has a handsome co-star and an entire “Love Boat” load of “has-beens” as a supporting cast. None are terribly strong, but it doesn’t matter because Jennifer Lopez fans will not be disappointed.

Delicious predicament gets Betsy in a jam
I did a double take at Sam’s Club last week. Was that really a giant flat of strawberries for less than $2? I immediately tossed aside a sample cup of lobster ravioli and began loading my cart. It’s in my blood: when a good deal like this comes my way, I take full advantage.

Letter: A bright light
Early this morning (April 22) Marie Taylor, who was a bright light on Longhorn Dr., left us. We will all miss her and her wonderful caring memory. She never forgot a name.

Letter: Stolen quilt
On Saturday night (April 17) we visited friends on Skippers Way, parking our golf cart in front of their house. We left two large rag quilts on the seat of our golf cart, not thinking someone would take them. When we left, my daughter’s quilt was in the middle of the street and my son’s was gone!

Wow, I guess the embarrassment is getting too much to bear for the Directors. E-mails are inciting violence? That’s a stretch. I would like to see one of those!

Letter: Sound Wall
I have lived in Canyon for 10 years. I live along the dreaded wall on Railroad Canyon Rd. When we moved here it was nice sitting in our backyard and listening to the birds in the morning. Now all I hear is traffic noise. I am concerned as to what an impact there will be to the noise level when and if the City goes to six lanes.

Letter: ACC enforcement
After being cited by the ACC for alleged violations, I decided to drive by the ACC members’ houses to see if they had any violations (they did). After bringing this to the Board’s attention, the violations on the member’s house still has not been corrected.

Letter: Lack of civility
Regarding “Message from the POA Board” (April 23 issue), Marv and I just missed (time-wise) the witch trials in Massachusetts. However, we do have vivid memories of the McCarthy Hearing years.
