Chennette and Newsom elected to POA Board
Paul Chenette and Chuck Newsom won the majority of votes and were elected to the Property Owners Association Board of Directors at the Annual Meeting and Election last Tuesday, May 18.
Vets go to Washington
It has been estimated that more than 1,000 veterans of World War II are dying each day, many of them never getting the chance to see the WWII Memorial built in their honor in Washington D.C. Fortunately, Canyon Lake veterans Charles “Chuck” Cullen and Joe Henderson were able to visit the memorial this month, thanks to “Operation Greatest Gift” and the support of Masons across California.
City Connection: What is City's plan for low-income housing?
Will Canyon Lakers see low-income housing built in the community in the near future? The answer in short is, no, not in the near future and probably not inside the private gated community. Eventually, however, the City of Canyon Lake is mandated by law to come up with a plan to accommodate a certain percentage of low-income housing.

City Connection: Cops Corner
Canyon Lake is only one of five gated cities in California and among the largest in the country. The namesake 383-acre lake and community offer many amenities. But according to the Canyon Lake Police Department, the laid back, resort-like atmosphere and quality of life that attracted its 11,000 residents is being threatened by an increase in property type crimes, vandalism and lack of regard for the law.
Police investigate underage drinking at party
Unfortunately, Canyon Lake lived up to its alleged reputation as “Party City” last Friday night, May 14, when a group of students, reportedly from Canyon Lake Middle School, gained access to a vacant home on Loch Lomond Dr. and held a get-together there.

CLCT announces auditions for 'State Fair'
Auditions for the Canyon Lake Community Theatre’s fall production of Rodgers & Hammerstein’s “State Fair” will be held at the Lodge on June 1 from 4 to 8 p.m. Rodgers & Hammerstein’s only musical written directly for the screen is now a stage musical.
'Derby' is theme for Ski Club awards banquet
The Ski Club held its annual awards banquet at the Lodge on May 1, with the theme, “Kentucky Derby.” In keeping with this theme, Ski Club gals donned bonnets and clothing styles seen mostly at the famous horseracing event.

Temescal Canyon High School held its senior prom on Saturday, April 24, at the Ocean Institute in Dana Point. The prom theme was "Seaside Serenade." Elsinore High School held its prom the same evening at Soku University.

Announcement: Brownies determined to make a difference
The Brownies of newly formed Troop 1077 explored the Legoland amusement park on Saturday, May 15, after earning money by selling Girl Scout cookies this past winter. The troop, which was formed in January 2010, is also planning to do philanthropic events with their earnings.

This week’s pets are Jade and Peter. Jade is a pretty tan and black 5-year-old female shepherd mix that is already spayed and ready for a good home. Peter is a cute10-week old gray and cream domestic shorthaired male kitten. His mom and brother are also at the shelter.

Canyon Lakers are gearing up for the first big event of summer next Saturday, May 29. With the theme, “Fiesta Day Gone Country,” the annual event will begin with a parade in the morning from Blue Bird Hall to the Lodge, and culminate with a festival of vendor booths, food court, kids zone, live entertainment on indoor and outdoor stages and a water skiing show at the Lodge and Sunset Beach area.

The Country Club welcomes new Interim Food and Beverage Administrator Mike Simpson. Mike has been the chef for the past few months and comes to Canyon Lake with 22 years of experience in cooking and hospitality management. Under Mike’s leadership is a new chef with the appropriate name of Brent Cook.

Make way for weed-abatement equipment
Residents are asked to avoid parking vehicles and RVs next to vacant lots that still have weeds because the POA has begun its annual weed abatement program.

Notice is hereby given that the Canyon Lake Property Owners Association seeks proposals from qualified engineering firms to provide a “Pavement Management Program.“
ACCording to the ACC: Members responsible for contractors
Contractors, subcontractors, equipment operators and their employees are the responsibility of the property owner employing them. The property owner (including owner/builders) need to ensure all construction personnel are familiar with and obey the rules governing their activities in Canyon Lake.
