Summer crowd

As in other years, the East Bay near the Main Causeway was a popular gathering place for boaters and swimmers to lounge and soak up the sun over Memorial Day weekend. These boat owners didn’t need to worry about the POA’s new Quagga Mussel Boat Inspection program that went into effect Tuesday, June 1. But if they take their boats outside the gates for service or gas or to use them in other waterways, they will need to follow some new procedures introduced this week. According to POA Director Steve Salazar, who, along with the Lake and Marina Committee, has helped spearhead the program to protect the Lake from invasive mussels, the first day of the program saw five boats inspected, with two of the five given the all-clear and three quarantined. To learn more about the boat inspection program, see "Boat inspection program has begun." These scenes were photographed by resident Bill Corbin.
