Betsy's Best Bets: What to do about annoying summer problems
“Hot enough for ya?” I hate when people ask me that, but I just had to start off this week’s column with the question. We’ve had a great run of luck with the temps lately, but we all knew it was coming: heat wave! With the high heat come many summer problems that plague me every year and make me dream about chilly fall breezes.
Day Tripping: Teen's day-tripping takes her zip-lining in Catalina
Your heart is pounding. You are one step from falling 30 or more feet, yet one jump from flying through the beautiful canyons of Santa Catalina Island. It’s called the Catalina Zip Line Eco Tour. Cook's Corner: Cook without confusion by using the sun
Have you noticed? It’s summer. The overcast mornings have led to some confusion but by afternoon the normal stultifying hotness has arrived. In our corner of the solar system, this summer heat is due to where the earth is in its orbit around the sun. As you might have guessed, my kids and I have embarked on a yearlong astronomy course that includes a study of the sun.
Teen Talk: Discovering the musical talent of unsigned artists
Have you ever noticed how some artists are bad singers but are still famous? A famous singer like this is Johnny Cash. The approval by the City Council to reimburse a member for legal costs he incurred in a failed attempt to get restraining order against a Canyon Lake resident provokes some questions: First, if the councilman had won, would the City still reimburse his costs?
