Lake level to remain higher this summer
There is welcome news from Elsinore Valley Municipal Water District. Fresh water from Northern California began entering Canyon Lake this week via the San Jacinto River and the North Ski Area, according to Ben Wicke, Canyon Lake’s representative to the EVMWD board.
Residents revel in red, white and blue weekend
It was another red, white and blue weekend in Canyon Lake as thousands of guests joined residents here to celebrate the country’s 234th birthday. Hundreds of boaters enjoyed the Lake and thousands flocked to the beaches to take advantage of the warm weather and holiday atmosphere.
Poker Run is Saturday at Holiday Harbor
In addition to being a preferred mode of transportation in Canyon Lake, what do street carts, golf carts and boats have in common? This weekend it’s an event designed to welcome them all! Street Carts of Canyon Lake will host its annual Poker Run picnic and fundraiser tomorrow, July 10, from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Holiday Harbor.
City Connection: Audit reveals City assets exceed liabilities
For the fiscal year ended June 30, 2009, the auditor for the City of Canyon Lake, Lance, Soll & Lunghard, LLP, reported that assets exceeded liabilities by nearly $8 million. With net assets of $7,908,818, the City has two years of reserves. But new revenue may be needed to offset projected budget shortfalls and maintain existing public safety service levels.
City Connection: East Gate is still open to through traffic, business
East Gate shopping center businessman Bill Corbin of Electrolux Vacuums says he was so appalled by the backup of traffic at the Main Gate on the 4th of July, he actually stood near the Main Gate for a while to remind drivers they could easily enter Canyon Lake through the East Gate if they drove a little further.
City Connection: Celebrate the City's 20th anniversary
The first year (December 1990–1991). It all started with the convergence of several things - the thought that Canyon Lake would be annexed by Lake Elsinore or a potential city of Sun City/Menifee.
City Connection: City Council meeting is July 14
Because of the 4th of July holiday, the July City Council Meeting was changed from July 7 to Wednesday, July 14, at 6:30 p.m. in the Canyon Lake Municipal Building.
Cops Corner
At this week's Public Safety meeting, Cpl. Ole Williams reported in the month of June the Canyon Lake Police Department handled 462 files; up from 446 in May and 329 in April. He said increases in activity are a result of the summer weather, additional visitors within the City, additional traffic enforcement and schools being closed for the summer.

Chamber Notes: Sugar Dollz Ribbon-cutting
The Chamber of Commerce held a ribbon-cutting ceremony for the new sportswear boutique, Sugar Dollz, located 'on the green'behind Canyon Lake Flowers and Amato's Restaurant.
Scholarship Pageant returns to Canyon Lake
Calling all ladies who would like to make a difference in the community – the Canyon Lake Scholarship Pageant is back! Because of the difficulty of raising sponsorship funds, there has not been a pageant the past couple of years.
Another Learn to Ski Day is next Wednesday
The Canyon Lake Ski Club will host two more Learn To Ski days this summer in the North Ski Area. The next one is Wednesday, July 14, from 1 to 4 p.m. and the last one will be on August 4, from 1 to 4 p.m.
Age not a factor for 90-year-old tennis player
Tennis is often referred to as a sport for life. Canyon Lake resident Tony Munio certainly is evidence of that, according to his friends at the Canyon Lake Tennis Courts. Playing tennis since the age of 15, Tony celebrated his 90th birthday by playing tennis in the Tennis Club’s June tournament.
Coyote snatches dog
Residents are urged to remain cautious when letting their small pets outside. Barbara Manning reports this past week a brazen coyote snatched her Pomeranian from the steps of her porch on Old Wrangler Dr. when she took it out at 5 a.m., even though Barbara was standing with her pet.
Looking Back: What was happening here in past Julys?
In July of 1975, a “choice Golf Course lot” was offered for sale at $7,500 and you could purchase one of Canyon Lake’s 1,300 sq. ft. condominiums for $40,900, according to ads in the community’s Lighthouse Magazine.

Early in the day I can generally be found floating amidst the scores regaling in the hot summer sun. Congratulations to the 2010 District 28 Junior Division all-star champions for their record of 3-0 in the playoffs. The final game of the series was played on July 6.
Announcement: Far West soccer champion
During the week of June 21 to 27, Canyon Lake resident Marissa Everett, 12, and her team, Arsenal FC of Rancho Cucamonga, competed in the Far West Regional IV Championship in Albuquerque, New Mexico, bringing home the gold.
Anouncement: Big bass
Ed Ryder says he caught this bass off Gray Fox Dr. near the end of June and figures it weighed close to 10 lbs.

Adopt-a-pet: Paloma and Big Mama
This week’s pets are Paloma and Big Mama. Paloma is a blonde 1-year-old female Chihuahua who is a sweet little lap dog. Big Mama is a very pretty 5-year-old domestic shorthaired calico female. She’s already spayed and ready to go to a new home. Many kittens are also available for adoption.

At the Lodge: Taco Tuesday draws crowd of all ages
Taco Tuesday regulars are beginning to discover they can walk upstairs to the main bar at the Lodge and enjoy the ambiance of Taco Tuesday by sitting on the deck overlooking Sunset Beach and sipping a frozen margarita or other favorite drinks.

Classes and Activities: Time to sign up for Jr. Golf Clinic
The annual Canyon Lake Jr. Golf Clinic is scheduled for the week of August 2 through 6. The format will be the same as years past, with kids going through four swing stations during the hour-long clinic, learning the basic fundamentals of hitting the golf ball.
Inaugural 'Fit Community' event scheduled for January 22
Canyon Lakers are invited to mark their calendars for the inaugural “Fit Community” event scheduled for Saturday, January 22. “Plenty of exciting, healthy activities are planned, offering something for all families in our active community, including a 5K and 10K run/walk, a 1K children’s fun run, health fair, entertainment and more,” says Program and Activities Administrator Val Grillo.
