Perhaps feeling a little bit like gods at one of the Top 100-rated public courses in the U.S., the "Bucket List" players from Canyon Lake are, from left, Tad Barclay, Phil Coughlin, Monte Brewster and Bob Stinson. On the right are Jim Magill, Dick Fusco (holding The Friday Flyer), Dale Willingham and Fran Pothier. Taking the photo was the ninth member of the group, Bruce "Scarf" Wallace.

Nine golfers take 'The Bucket List' Trip 2

Ever since the movie, “The Bucket List,” came out, starring Jack Nicholson and Morgan Freeman as two terminally ill men who decide to embark on a list of adventures before they “kick the bucket,” a lot of people, young and old, have begun making their own “bucket lists.”
Last year, four Canyon Lake golfers, Jim Magill, Dick Fusco, Tad Barclay and Jim Fossum, decided to make a bucket list of golf courses they wanted to play before they reached the end of their days – not that any of them were facing terminal illness. Their first trip took them to the famous “Island Green” course in Coeur d’Alene, Idaho.
Since that trip, the list of players has grown from the original four to nine. They recently returned from the second “Bucket List” trip – a visit to Albuquerque and Ruidoso, New Mexico. While there they played three courses, two of which are on a list of the Top 100 public courses anyone can play.
Joining the original four for this trip were Fran Pothier, Dale Willingham, Phil Coughlin, Bob Stinson, Bruce “Scarf” Wallace and Monte Brewster.
On their first day, they played at Cloudcroft, the highest golf course in New Mexico at 8,600 feet. Following that on Day 2, they played one of the Top 100, “The Inn of the Mountain Gods” in Ruidoso.
On Day 3 they took a golfing holiday, went to the races at Ruidoso Downs, and then drove to Albuquerque. Day 4 saw the group teeing off at Paa-Ko Ridge, a truly spectacular course that is rated No. 1 in New Mexico, according to Jim.
The group is now making plans for next year’s “Bucket List” Trip 3.
