“Many thanks to the paramedic who just happened to be camping that weekend, a nurse who was also camping, the Happy Camp management and the emergency medical services, who took excellent care of the boy and delivered him safely to an urgent care facility,” says Stephen. Denise Bassett, the boy’s mother, an accomplished triathlete currently training for her Ironman appearance later this year in Arizona, says her son received a clean bill of health from the attending urgent care physician that same day and he is already planning his next triathlon with the club. For the adult participants, the sprint triathlon was half the distance of an Olympic distance triathlon – a ½-mile (800 meter) swim, 12-mile (20K) bike ride and a 3.1-mile (5K) run. The triathlon was held at the Campground because of road construction taking place elsewhere in the community, so Stephen expressed his appreciation to the campers for their patience during the event. He anticipates construction will be done before the next triathlon and it won’t need to be held at Happy Camp. Visit the club on Facebook at CanyonLake TriathlonClub. |
