Classes and Activities: Fall computer classes begin in September The POA is offering a new schedule of computer classes that begin next week. Register at Member Services, making checks payable to the Property Owners Association. There is a limit of eight students per class, so register early. • “Basic Excel” is designed for the beginner as well as the experienced user who wishes to discover new ways to use Microsoft PC Excel in organizing data, both numerical and textual. Class includes getting familiar with the Excel window, understanding a worksheet, organizing, formatting and entering information, both text and numbers, into the worksheet. Six three-hour sessions will be held on Thursdays from 9 a.m. to noon, beginning September 16 and continuing through October 21. The instructor is Emil Kreh and the cost is $35. • “The Internet and e-mail” course is designed for beginners and users who wish to expand their knowledge of how the Internet and e-mail can better serve them. Included is a brief history and overview of Internet/e-mail and how to select an Internet Service Provider (ISP). Learn about dial-up vs. DSL/FiOS vs. cable modem as well as spam and virus screening programs. Learn how to surf the Web and use Internet services such as on-line banking and investing, eBay, Amazon, etc. Also learn such e-mail skills as how to attach a file, digital photos and documents to e-mails, replying and forwarding, etc. Bob Mericle will teach four two-hour sessions on Thursday, from 1 to 3 p.m., beginning September 16 and continuing through October 7. The cost is $25. • “A step up for XP, Vista and Windows 7 users” includes a review of operating systems, PC hardware and various functions. Several Microsoft Office 2003 and 2007 application programs will be used and will teach cutting, copying, pasting, inserting pictures and art with word-wrap, saving files in folders and printing and copying to removable media such as CDs and flash memory drives. The class will not be highly structured and will attempt to answer questions that plague users. Bob Mericle will teach six two-hour sessions on Wednesdays, from 9 to 11 a.m., beginning September 15 and continuing through October 20. The cost is $25. • Basic PowerPoint course is designed for the PowerPoint beginner, home or business user who wants to create photo shows or presentations. Learn to access the hundreds of formats PowerPoint offers, add text, attach pictures, charts and spread sheets. Also add action, sounds and music. Then present slide show or print a formal document or book. Special in the fall class is the opportunity to create a Christmas card. Babette Stubbs will teach five 1 ½-hour sessions on Fridays, from 9 to 10:30 a.m., beginning September 10 and continuing through October 8. The cost is $30. |
