Mature Driving Class
The AARP, in conjunction with the POA, will provide a Drivers Safety Program next month. The eight-hour class will be held in the City Multi-purpose Room on Tuesday, October 19, from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Students are asked to bring their driver’s license and pen and paper. There will be a one-hour break for lunch. The fee is $12 for AARP members and $14 for non-members, payable on the day of class by cash or check to instructor Don Duncan. Members must present their AARP card for the discount. Make checks payable to AARP. With a class size limited to 30, reservations are necessary by signing up at Member Services or by calling 244-6841, ext. 618.

Traffic school
The next POA traffic school will be held Tuesday, September 21, from 7 to 9 p.m. in the Towne Center Conference Room. The fee is $25 for those with moving violation citations; free to those who are coming for educational purposes only. Teens learning to drive also are welcome to attend free of charge. Sign up for the class at Member Services prior to the class. The instructor is Don Duncan, a driving school teacher.
The Board approved the establishment of a traffic school as part of the appeals process in order to allow a fine reduction for members who take a class and learn about the Association’s driving rules. The traffic school is for those appealing traffic tickets issued inside the private community. Traffic school is allowed once every 18 months per individual – not per lot.

Decals for company cars
If a member drives a vehicle that is registered to a company, the member can request a decal for that vehicle. To register the vehicle with the POA, the member must present the vehicle registration, along with a letter from the company on company letterhead stating that the sole driver of the vehicle is the prime member and/or any authorized person on the property.
A lessee may also obtain a vehicle decal for a company car if the prime member authorizes CLPOA to issue vehicle sticker(s) to the lessee. Please note: this policy for a member to request a vehicle decal for a company car does not apply to vehicles that are not allowed to park in Canyon Lake, i.e. semi-trucks, moving trucks, etc.

Crafters wanted
Adult crafters of all ages are invited to participate in the 10th annual Holiday Boutique, sponsored by the Senior Committee, on Saturday and Sunday, November 13 and 14, at the Senior Center (next to the Main Gate).
All items must be handcrafted. Entry fee is $20, with 15 percent of the crafter’s sales donated to the Senior Center. Signups will be held at the Senior Center from 10 a.m. to noon every Monday, beginning September 13 through October 25. There will be one evening signup on October 18, from 5 to 7 p.m.

Appealing?
Those waiting to appear before the Appeals Committee are reminded that they will be notified by mail as to the date they are to attend their hearing. Some people have been showing up at committee meetings not realizing that their cases will not be heard until they receive a notice in the mail, according to Hearing Services.
In addition, to be heard by the Appeals Committee, the Prime Member or another person on the property’s title must appear. If a guest or renter wants to appear, he or she may do so, but must be accompanied by the property owner as well. Sign-in for Appeals Hearings take place at 5 p.m. for hearings that will begin at 5:30.

Update records
Member Services requests that members notify the department of changes to membership status and contact information for each member’s property. Changes can be made at www.canyonlakepoa.com. Members also are asked to provide their e-mail addresses for the purpose of electronic notification by the POA.

Spelling, please
Canyon Lakers should be prepared to spell the last and first names of their guests when they call them in to the POA. According to Member Services, even if a person’s name is one letter off, it could mean they will not come up on the computer at the gate.

Pre-printed guest passes
Members hosting special events for more than 10 people can submit a guest list no later than two weeks before an event in order to obtain pre-printed passes that can be mailed or given to guests prior to the event. For those guests who have their pass and driver’s license readily available, Community Patrol will verify the documents and direct them through, thus alleviating their wait time at the gate.
Members can obtain the “Special Event Guest Form” at www.canyonlakepoa.com or pick it up from Member Services. Members can elect to pick up the completed passes from Member Services or have them mailed to the member’s residence.
To further alleviate congestion at the Main Gate during busy weekends, Community Patrol will provide an additional staff to service the visitors’ lane and speed up access to the community for visitors as well as members who may be waiting behind them.

Road construction
Webb Associates Inspector Ron Thornton says paving was delayed by five days last week after crews encountered some issues with shallow telephone and cable utilities. Paving is now scheduled to be completed Monday and Tuesday, August 16 and 17.
Ron anticipates that by Wednesday and Thursday, August 18 and 19, the new roadway will be re-striped and traffic switched to the south/west side, while construction begins on the north/east side of Vacation Dr. and Canyon Lake Dr. South between the Main Gate and Blue Bird Dr. There will be a little more room for traffic flow on the south/west side, perhaps allowing for a golf cart lane. The entire project is scheduled for completion by September 30.
Members with comments or questions about the Road Project can contact Operations Manager Paul Johnson at 244-6841, ext. 510.

Playing such offensive language in recorded music at a POA common area, park or on the Lake is a “use” of that language that qualifies as a nuisance, according to the Board and is subject to citation under the rules.
