Life's a beach

Summer officially arrived this week and with it triple-digit temperatures. But for those with time enough to enjoy the many parks and beaches in the community, that's just fine. Sunbathers in this photo by Roger Skougard cool off by the water at Sunset Beach. There's plenty to do in Canyon Lake tommorrow, June 25, before or after sunbathing. Golfers may want to head to the golf course for the Beautification Tournament tomorrow morning (be there by 7:30 a.m. to register). Residents can also get in the Aloha spirit at 6 p.m. tomorrow evening at Holiday Harbor at "Hawaiian paradise in a Canyon Lake Paradise" sponsored by the Fine Arts Guild. The Terry Williams Orchestra will provide music for listening pleasure and for those who want to "kick up their heels" on the dance floor. Tickets are $20. |

Is CLFD still an option? Committee says yes
There is no doubt paying for public safety is a sensitive topic in Canyon Lake, and trying to report the opinions of public figures or committees out of context can lead to misunderstanding. Writing that the ad hoc Public Safety Advisory Committee “plans to eliminate the option” of a municipal fire department (CLDF) is a case in point.

Movie Reviews by Reel People: 'Green Lantern'
It’s time to go green again. Unlike that slob The Green Hornet, Ryan Reynolds makes this suit look good. Sure, the hero always gets the girl. But, let’s face it; Reynolds is going to get the girl anyway. Are we right ladies? Unfortunately, the dreamy superhero is much more super as a mortal than as his superhero character.

Cook's Corner: Pizza on the grill is never out of style
Packing for vacation is always a dilemma, but especially if you are packing to visit America’s style capital, New York City. East Coast clothing sensibilities lean to the more formal, more put-together, and sometimes more stuffy than what we are used to in laidback Southern California.
Letter: Not the message
Our City Manager stated: “Our citizens voted against Measure E and, therefore, against continuation of historically high level of service provided by the City’s public safety departments.” In my opinion that was definitely not the message.
Letter: Country Club
It has been over a year now since I have invited a party to the Country Club Sunday Buffet –reason being the last time was an embarrassment. Many of the chafing pans were empty and the remaining fare appeared shopworn and not too appealing!

We celebrated the afternoon of Father’s Day at Indian Beach, along with a lot of other people, paddling around on our kayaks in the East Bay and swimming in the Lake with the kids. When we first arrived at Indian Beach, we noted people on a pontoon boat, cruising through the East Bay, directing their high-speed radio-controlled boat along with them.
Letter: Maniac drivers
I would like to thank the neighbors and the POA that had to deal with the body of my child’s cat, Lucy, on Monday morning, June 20, on Redwood Dr. This should be a warning to pet owners and parents alike: people will drive through these small back streets like maniacs with total disregard for anything.
