Tennis Club winners

Submission deadline
     Clubs are invited to submit information and photos to news@goldingpublications.com, fax 244-2748 or bring them to The Friday Flyer, 31558 Railroad Canyon Rd. in the Towne Center, by Tuesday at noon, earlier when possible. Due to space constraints The Friday Flyer is not able to publish every Canyon Lake club’s news in the printed issue of The Friday Flyer each week. Torah Club
     Jewish High Holiday Services are sponsored by the Torah Club and are conducted in a conservative, relaxed manner with English and Hebrew. “Shema Yisrael Adonai Eloheynu Adonai Ehad.” 
     All ages and crying babies are welcome. Services are offered to individuals in Canyon Lake and surrounding communities at no charge. The schedule is as follows: September 29, 9 a.m., Rosh Hashana Day 1 (Pool View Room); September 30, 9 a.m., Rosh Hashana Day 2  (Pool View Room); October 7, 6 p.m., Yom Kippur evening Kol Nidrei (Blue Bird Hall); October 8, 9 a.m., Yom Kippur and Neilah (Blue Bird Hall).

CLAMS
     The buses for the CLAMS Laughlin trip to Aquarius Casino Resort are filled. The CLAMS are accepting standby reservations in the event of cancellations. For more information, contact Carl Farris at 244-8043 or Howard Nelson at 244-8957.

Cotillion
     The next summer themed Cotillion program is Hawaiian Night on August 5. A ’40s/’50s Night will be held on September 9. Participants should dress according to the theme. Hawaiian Night will feature instruction in Hawaiian dances. The ’40s/’50s Night will be mostly East Coast Swing.
     The annual beach/picnic day will be held on Saturday, August 13, at Roadrunner Beach. The whole family is invited as guests of Cotillion members. Unlimited nachos and other “health food” will be served.
     New members are still being accepted, particularly young gentlemen. Arrangements can be made if there is a financial issue. For more information, contact Ed Strong at 244-4500.

Travel Club
     Dance to the music of the Cadillacs and enjoy chicken and barbecued ribs catered by Skip Thompson at the Canyon Lake Travel Club’s “Back to School” poolside dinner-dance on September 9. Cost is $40 for members. This event fills up fast, so early registration is recommended.
     The club has several upcoming single and multiple day trips planned. A San Diego Harbor Cruise is planned for August 7. Cost is $85. The Miramar Air show, considered by many to be the best in the nation, will be on September 30. A single-day trip to the Kellogg Estate and Arabian Horse Show is planned for November 6. Cost is $62 for members.
     A 13-day “5-Country Africa Adventure” is scheduled for January 17 to 30, 2012. Cost is $4,355 per member.

Car Club
     The Car Club would like to announce the 6th annual Car Show and Cruise to be held on October 1, 2011 at the Canyon Lake Lodge.
     The Car Show will feature several hundred pre-1973 classic and custom cars. There will be vendor booths that will offer a variety of products. The Car Club will be selling T-shirts, and a DJ will provide music with a custom entertainment system. The Lighthouse Bar & Grill will be open, and other food vendors will be selling food at the event.
     As in years past, there will be a live auction, with a portion of the proceeds going to the Progeria Foundation. After the awards ceremony, the cars in the show will take a cruise through the community.
     Registration forms for members and their guests are now available at the POA Member Services desk.

Tennis Club
     The Tennis club’s next event is the Blind Partner Draw on August 20 at 5 p.m., which will include a barbecue. The cost of the tournament is $10 per person; the deadline to sign up is Wednesday, August 17, by contacting Tournament Directors Rob and Kristy Toups at 244-9795.
     The Tennis Club invites residents to come out for Open Play on Tuesdays and Thursdays at 8 a.m. It is open to all levels of players and is a way to meet other players without committing to a schedule. For more information, contact Dave Harrigan at 746-3460 or davenjean1958@yahoo.com.

Fitness and Triathlon Club
     Three members of the Fitness and Triathlon Club – Stephen Bustos, Jen Orr and Jerry Camporrendondo – set “Personal Bests” (PBs) in the Vineman Ironman 70.3-mile race in Northern California this past weekend. Stephen says not only did they have a lot of fun swimming 1.2 miles, cycling 56 miles and running 13.1 miles in the Sonoma Valley, they each beat their goals by a significant amount of time.

CLAWS
     All Canyon Lake women are invited to (CLAWS) Group Bunco on the second Wednesday of the month from 3 to 6 p.m. in the Country Club Magnolia Room. A player’s card is $10. Roadrunners
     Roadrunners RV Club meetings are held on the second Tuesday of each month, from 5 to 7 p.m. Meetings for July will be held at Roadrunner Park. Social hour begins at 5; catered dinner and meeting begin at 6. Residents who enjoy the RV life are encouraged to join as members. For more information, call John Sullivan at 244-4626.

Choraleers
     The Choraleers will start rehearsing for their Christmas concert Monday, August 29. Those interested in singing with the Choraleers should contact Patti Miles at 244-7193.

Yacht Club
     Meetings of the Yacht Club are held the fourth Thursday of the month in the Pool View Room at the Lodge. Boat ownership is not a criterion for membership. Members enjoy fun events throughout the year, including the moonlight cruise, progressive dinner, Oktoberfest, Lake cleanup and more. For more information, contact Kathy Bacon at 246-9968.

Motorcycle Club
     The Motorcycle Club monthly meetings are held the third Wednesday of each month at 7 p.m. with dinner and fellowship at the North Shore Condos Clubhouse, 22570 Bass Pl. Rides are open to everyone. Membership applications are available on the club’s website. Chair Volleyball
     Members of the Chair Volleyball Club continue to enjoy Chair Volleyball on Tuesday and Friday mornings at 9:45 a.m. in the Holiday Bay Room. The game is played using a beach ball and a slightly lowered net while players are seated.
     Occasionally, the meeting time changes if an event is scheduled in the Holiday Bay Room, so visitors should check with Karen Bevans at 246-1444 or karenbevans@hotmail.com before heading over there. Membership dues are $10 per year.

Bassmasters
     The Bassmasters have meetings in the Towne Center Conference Room on the first Wednesday of each month at 7 p.m. and hold a tournament on the following Saturday. They also hold six team tournaments per year, which are open to all residents of Canyon Lake.
     The club’s schedule can be found at canyonlakebassmasters.com. The club is active in many community events and hosts the annual Kids Fishing Derby each August. The club also sponsors a Junior Bassmasters Club.
     Those interested in learning more about bass fishing and low-pressure competition should contact Sal Gervasi at 244-3294.

Club
     The Car Club holds meetings the first Thursday of each month at the Lodge. Social hour begins at 5:30 p.m., followed by the general meeting at 6:30. Learn about upcoming events, listen to guest speakers and share automotive experiences. Finger foods will be served and a 50/50 drawing will round out the evening. Women’s Connection
     Women’s Connection meets the second Wednesday of each month, from noon to 2 p.m. at the Lodge. Women of all ages from Canyon Lake and surrounding communities are invited. For reservations or information, contact Gerry Moncur at 678-1407 or Eileen Crowder at 674-7221.

Art Association

Twirlers Square Dance Club
     The Twirlers Square Dance Club beginning square dance class is held every Wednesday from 7 to 8:15 p.m. in the Holiday Bay Room at the Lodge. Classes are $5 each week for individuals, $10 for families and the first night is free. Classes are open to residents and non-residents. The next beginner class starts in September.      A plus-level workshop is held from 6:15 to 7 p.m. and a dance-level workshop is held from 8:30 to 9:30 p.m. Regular club dances are held on the second Sunday of each month in the Holiday Bay Room.
     Beginner line dance classes are held every Tuesday, from 4:30 to 6 p.m. at the Lodge. All ages are welcome. A beginning to intermediate line dance class is offered Wednesdays from 3 to 5 p.m. in the Holiday Bay Room. Each class is $4.

Woman’s Club
     The Canyon Lake Woman’s Club is a non-profit, non-partisan philanthropic service organization dedicated to the enrichment of Canyon Lake and helping others less fortunate. General Meetings are held on the third Wednesday of the month. The next regular meeting of the Woman’s Club will be on September 21, at 10 a.m. at the Lodge. Bosom Buddies
     The Bosom Buddies mission is to educate, inspire and support newly diagnosed breast cancer patients during their breast cancer journey. Pinochle Club

Republican Women’s Club
     The next Canyon Lake Republican Women’s Club general meeting will be held in September. For more information, contact President Leslie Brand at 244-3966.

Garden Club
     The Garden Club will be “dark” for July and August and will resume its trips in September, on the second Tuesday of the month.

Jr. Women’s Club
     The Canyon Lake Jr. Women’s Club is a philanthropic organization whose efforts benefit local children and families in need. For more information, call Carol Winn at 264-4364 or e-mail canyonlakejwc@gmail.com.

Wakeboard Club
