Directors fulfill promise of bigger room
With unsurpassed views, elbow room galore, air-conditioning to beat the triple-digit heat and the ability to purchase pre-meeting snacks and drinks at the bar and Taco Tuesday, almost 100 attendees at last Tuesday’s Board meeting in the Holiday Bay Room at the Lodge never had it better.
Business Showcase: Towne Center gets a 'lift' at new Med Spa
There was a surprise in store for Canyon Lake Med Spa owners April Turner-Tiideberg, RN, and Alex Denes, MD, FACP, after they posted a “Coming Soon” sign on the door of their Towne Center location. Even before opening, new patients were anxiously knocking on their door requesting treatments.

Dan and Laura Dotson, auctioneers and hosts of A&E Channel’s “Storage Wars,” will be on hand tomorrow, August 6, at 11 a.m. to help Tara and Joe Garza and business partner, Todd Moe, celebrate the grand opening and ribbon cutting of A to Z Treasures in the Towne Center.

As students return to school and school buses start rolling through the community’s streets on Wednesday, August 10, it’s important for motorists to be mindful of the bus stop locations and drive carefully when approaching them.
City Connection: Public safety officials report on City statistics
Canyon Lake Police – During a meeting of the City of Canyon Lake Public Safety Committee on August 2, Lt. Daniel Hedge reported the Canyon Lake Police Department handled 348 files in the month of July. He said there were 12 Part 1 crimes, including one assault, two burglaries, three general thefts, three grand thefts, two vehicle thefts, one theft from a vehicle, four vandalisms and one public intoxication arrest.
City Connection: Library reading program ends, activities continue
The Library celebrated the end of the Summer Reading Program “One World, Many Stories” with a party on July 29. Readers and their families enjoyed indoor craft tables, outdoor games and blowing bubbles, as well as a cake.

Realtor Report: Real estate data reveals ups and downs
Gene Wunderlich, director of government affairs for Southwest Riverside County Association of Realtors, made a presentation to the City Council on Wednesday, August 3. He explained a series of charts pertaining to the real estate market since 2004, some of which are pictured here, that showed trends for Southwest Riverside County and for Canyon Lake. The charts will be available on the City\'s website at cityofcanyonlake.com.
Chamber Notes
The Canyon Lake Chamber will hold its next luncheon on Wednesday, August 10, at 11:30 a.m. in the banquet room at Pepe’s. The featured speaker will be State Senator Bill Emmerson. The chamber is looking forward to having the Senator speak on issues coming out of Sacramento that affect Canyon Lake.
Farmers Market has new owner
The Canyon Lake Farmers Market continues to be held every Sunday and is under the new ownership of Jim Stewart. Farmers Market vendors offer fresh produce, eggs, flowers and prepared foods such as hot dogs, fish tacos, hummus, pita chips, beef jerky and more. A new vendor, Old Town Baker, offers a variety of breads, including non-gluten products, bagels, pastries, cookies and pies. Look for a variety of crafts, clothing, jewelry and merchandise.
It's been a decade where were you on 9-11?
In 37 days, Americans will commemorate the 10th anniversary of September 11, 2001 – more widely known as 9-11. Over the coming weeks, there will be reminders of the day that is forever etched in the memories of anyone who was 5 years old and older when they watched television images of airliners flying into the World Trade Center and the Pentagon, and heard reports of a jetliner crashing into a Pennsylvania field.
Get ready for kids' Fishing Derby next Saturday
The Canyon Lake Bassmasters will host the 25th annual Kids Fishing Derby on Saturday, August 13, at Holiday Harbor, for Canyon Lake residents and their guests ages 5 to 15.
Paddle and Pedal Regatta
Residents are reminded to mark their calendars for the "Paddle and Pedal Regatta" on Saturday, August 20, at 10 a.m. at Indian Beach. All paddle-boarders, kayakers and pedal boaters are invited to come out for this free, non-competitive non-motorized East Bay cruise. Watch for details.

The Canyon Lake Car Club would like to announce the 6th annual Car Show and Cruise to be held on October 1, 2011 at the Canyon Lake Lodge.
AFV kicks off 'FurrEver Homes' campaign Sunday
Animal Friends of the Valleys has several upcoming events that residents are invited to attend. They will kick-off the “FurrEver Homes” campaign with an AFV mascot-naming contest on August 7 at the shelter, which will be open from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. for adoptions only. The kick-off event will feature half-price adoptions with special giveaways, Thunder from Storm at noon, vendors and a DJ.
Looking Back: Looking back at Augusts of past years
On August 21, 1971, Canyon Lake’s “most lavish summertime party” was held around the pool at the Lodge, with a capacity crowd of revelers taking full advantage of the $7.50 ticket price that included hors d’oeuvres and Mai Tais, a South Seas Island feast, a “wonderful Hawaiian and Tahitian floorshow, dining and dancing to the swaying music of Hawaii.” The annual luau was limited to adult POA members and their guests with Terry Woodward serving as chair.
Arts and Entertainment
The Canyon Lake Jr. Women’s Club will present “Summer Splash” at Holiday Harbor on Saturday, August 27, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Back by popular demand, this fun event is for families and children of all ages and will include a 20-foot high Shark Slide, five-in-one water slide, bounce houses, face painting, games, prizes, a clown who makes balloon animals, food, music, prizes, vendors booths for shopping and plenty of family-style fun.
Movie Reviews by Reel People: 'Cowboys and Aliens'
No, this isn’t a story about our current immigration policy. “Cowboys and Aliens” is a tribute to our favorite movie genres; cowboys, Indians, outlaws, aliens and Bond, James Bond. The only thing missing was a chariot race, but producers Steven Spielberg, Ron Howard and Brian Grazer deliver ample summer fun and entertainment at the movies.
Letter: Pet drive
In an effort to continually strive to give back to the community, the Canyon Lake Motorcycle Club hosted their 5th annual Pet Drive on June 25, 2011 at the Canyon Lake Towne Center. Club member were truly touched by the generosity of the community.
Letter: Unwelcome guests
In reference to a letter about Realtors by the Farrells, I have become aware that outside Realtors only have to show their Realtor license to get in our private community. Nothing can stop them after receiving a pass at our Main Gate from using our parks and facilities for parties, swimming and fishing.

I wish to thank the people of the Canyon Lake community for their support of the Canyon Lake Woman’s Club hotdog booth this year at Fiesta Day. Their patronage all goes to supporting our many philanthropic causes.
Letter: Vandalism at Pool
We once again enjoyed another wonderful Sunday Brunch at the Lighthouse Restaurant and want to compliment Rockelle Rogers and the entire staff for making it happen! While visiting with the staff we were sadly informed of what they walked into at 8 a.m. that morning.
Letter: Offensive flyer
This past week a flyer was taped to my front house door with a drawing of a middle school child riding a “stupid, electric green scooter.” The flyer noted that this child was kicking cars while riding a scooter throughout the neighborhood near Fair Weather Dr. The heading of the flyer read: “Have you seen this idiot?”
Letter: Unsafe boating
In the last few weeks we have seen a boat going clockwise at full speed, a boater pulling a tube on the Main Lake and multiple other safety issues. The worst happened to us on Sunday, July 24.
Letter: 'Honk! Jr.' thanks!
Thanks goes to all the wonderful cast members, parents and patrons who made the Canyon Lake Community Theatre children’s production of “Honk! Jr.” a success. This was a wonderful show full of fun, adventure and good messages. The cast was truly spectacular and I am always amazed at the talent we have here in Canyon Lake and surrounding communities.
Letter: POA Board Meetings
The newly elected Board is working very hard to deliver the promises that were made to the community. They are accomplishing these items at a very rapid pace. It might be true that there are some procedural issues at meetings, but they are doing the things that got them elected.
Near and Far with The Friday Flyer: The 'allure' of wake-boarding
David LeClaire just returned from a birthday cruise to Haiti, Jamaica and Cozumel on Allure of the Seas. Calling the Allure “the world’s largest cruise ship,” David got help taking pictures with The Friday Flyer in front of the wave machine and while wake-boarding. The FloRider can be found in the Pool Zone, where there also are cantilevered whirlpools and a zip-line view of the ship and sea.
Announcement: 'Best' of the best enjoy Storm game
The Canyon Lake Senior Chair Volleyball Club and the Canyon Lake Emergency Preparedness Committee represented Canyon Lake at the Lake Elsinore Storm baseball game with 55 Canyon Lake residents in attendance on Wednesday, July 27.
Announcement: Navy graduate
Steven Craig Lamm graduated from the U.S. Navy Recruit Training Command Center in Great Lakes, Illinois on July 29. Steven is attending “A” school in San Antonio Texas.
Announcement: A princess in New York
Jocelyn Basham of Canyon Lake recently attended the All Star Dancers National Convention in New York City. She was selected to participate in the convention after winning 1st place in a duo jazz routine at the Kids Artistic Revue Competition at California State Pomona in June.
In Memoriam: Grace Brindisi
Grace G. Brindisi, 81, of Woodland Park, New Jersey, passed away on Sunday, July 31, 2011. Mrs. Brindisi was an RN at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Paterson, New Jersey, before becoming a guidance counselor at Passaic County Technical Institute in Wayne, New Jersey.

This week’s Adopt-A-Pets are Shaka and Aladdin. Shaka is a 1-year-old purebred male Shepard that is un-neutered. Aladin is a 3-month-old female grey and white domestic shorthair that is full of energy and love. Club News: 1965 Buick Riviera selected as Car of the Month
Lynn and Glen Walker’s 1965 Buick Riviera was selected as July Car of the Month by the Canyon Lake Car Club. According to Glen, Lynn’s parents bought the 1965 Riviera new in the Chicago area for $4,595 and drove it across Route 66 to Los Angeles, just like a popular song of the time. It was a historic trip since it was the last year the old route was fully operational and available to the public.

Registration is open for the Paradise Classic Member Guest Golf Tournament scheduled for Friday and Saturday, September 8 to 9. All members of the Men’s Golf Club are eligible to enter. Canyon Lake golfers with an SCGA handicap index are also eligible.

With school starting Wednesday, next week's Taco Tuesday will feature a "Back to School" special: half-price wristbands for the Kids Zone. This is the last month for Taco Tuesday.

Financial Statements
The CLPOA has changed the format of reporting the Corporation’s financial statement to the membership.
Boat owners now paying $20 fee for Quagga Mussel Inspection
With the revised CLPOA 2011-2012 FY Budget, one of the changes that occurred was the implementation of a Quagga Mussel Inspection Fee. The fee was established to help offset the costs associated with having the Quagga Mussel Inspection Program.

Classes & Activities: Computer classes will begin in late August
On Wednesday, August 31, the Senior Center computer classroom will again come alive with course offerings that have proven to be popular with Canyon Lakers. All class offerings, which are not highly structured, will accommodate beginners as well as intermediate users. Students with notebook/laptop computers with the new Windows 7 Operating System are encouraged to bring their computers to class.
Classes & Activities: Painting class
Rita Forand's painting class to paint this winter scene will be held Sunday, August 21, from 1 to 4 p.m. in the Pool View Room at the Lodge. The instructor's goal is for students to go home with a finished 16x20 oil painting in just one three-hour session.

Summer hours are Sunday through Thursday, 6 a.m. to 9 p.m.; Friday and Saturday, 6 a.m. to 10 p.m. Lap swimming and water aerobics classes, pictured above, are Monday through Saturday, 6 to 10 a.m. Members are reminded to bring their POA ID. They must remain with guests they invite to use the Pool.
Classes & Activities: Family Movie Night
The next Family Movie Night will be held August 12, 8 p.m., with "Napolean Dynamite." Families will want to bring their own chairs or blankets to sit on the grassy hillside at Holiday Harbor.
Holiday Boutique crafters
Adult crafters of all ages are invited to participate in the annual Holiday Boutique, sponsored by the Senior Committee, on Saturday and Sunday, November 12 and 13, at the Senior Center (next to the Main Gate).

Planning and Compliance: Park unused, disabled vehicles out of sight
Section VI- C.3 of the Rules and Regulations states that no stripped-down, partially wrecked or junk vehicle, or any part thereof, shall be parked on any Canyon Lake street or any lot in such a manner as to be visible from any other lot, street, Lake or Golf Course within Canyon Lake.
Community Patrol says...
Canyon Lake Property Owners Association Rules and Regulations Section II-5 states: Curfew is 10 p.m. for minors under 18 years of age, unless accompanied by parents or responsible adult or unless en route from an adult supervised activity.

With the recently adopted, revised Pro-Forma Budget that was approved at the July 5 Board meeting, there were some cuts made to the Activities Department.
